Climbs in the capesize market edged into second gear today following single figure gains over the past couple of sessions.

Increased activity aided by Rio Tinto’s run of fixture yesterday has helped the market as capes bucked a recent trend to outperform the smaller sectors.

Capesizes:

Rio Tinto built to its five-strong intake from yesterday to add the Casta Diva (built 2011) to its roster today. It will pay $7.50 per ton for the vessel to sail from Dampier to Qingdao.

Cosco has chartered the 160,000-dwt Marina Carmen Lembo (built 2011) out of Western Australia for China at $7.75 per ton.

Noble has fixed the 140,000-dwt Captain Vangelis L (built 2009) out of Nouadhibou for Qingdao at $25.00 per ton.

Winning has hired the 182,600-dwt Cape Canary (built 2009) in Indonesia for China at $4,500 daily and a $220,000 bonus.

Panamaxes:

Perseveranza’s 74,500-dwt Rosalia D’Amato (built 2001) has been fixed at $10,650 daily for the next four to six months.

Bunge took on a couple of ships out of South America for Singapore-Japan.

It will pay $17,400 daily and a $500,000 bonus for the 82,600-dwt Beijing (built 2008) and $17,000 daily and a $650,000 bonus for the 77,100-dwt Oceanic Breeze (built 2005).

Cargill has dug out $17,000 daily for the 77,200-dwt Torm Pacific (built 2009) for a trip in the same direction.

Oldendorff has put $16,500 daily on the table for the 74,300-dwt Great Intelligence (built 2000) out of Cape Passero for South America and Singapore-Japan.

Jaldhi has picked up the 92,500-dwt Minoan Falcon (built 2011) for a run from Goa to China at $14,000 daily.

The 76,500-dwt Sea of Future (built 2005) has been chartered out of Mobile for Eregli at $11,000 a day and a $450,000 bonus.

Nidera Rome has got its hands on the 87,000-dwt Mariolina de Carlini (built 2010) in Recalada for Cape Passero at $10,000 daily and a $300,000 bonus.

The 83,400-dwt Key Boundary (built 2010) has gone to Swiss Marine at $8,000 daily for a trip from Immingham to Ventspils and back to the UK.

Supramaxes:

Brokers note the Atlantic has seen enquiries improve but the pacific remains sluggish.

Noble has booked the 58,800-dwt Navios Vega (built 2009) on a relet from Mitsui at $16,000 daily for a run from the Gulf of Mexico to Turkey.

The 58,700-dwt Maritime Unity (built 2008) has been fixed at $12,000 daily for a run out of Tuticorin for south east Asia and Singapore-Japan with a bauxite cargo.
