As U.S. automakers ramp up EV production, a domestic battery ecosystem is a must for the U.S. to become not only a world leader in innovation but also a world leader in the production of battery innovations. In support of the U.S.’s national blueprint for lithium batteries to establish a secure supply chain for batteries by 2030, Group14 is working to produce commercial quantities of next-gen lithium-silicon battery material from our Battery Active Material (BAM) factory in Washington state. Manufacturing is a critical component to meet the global demand for electrifications and spur the growth of a clean energy economy in the U.S..

Joann Muller shares the risks of the U.S. becoming dependent on imported batteries, mirroring its dependence on foreign oil via Axios: https://bit.ly/3hgF8SK

Statement by President Joe Biden on House Passage of the National Science Foundation for the Future Act and the Department of Energy Science for the Future Act

In March, I outlined my vision for how we can grow our economy for all workers through the American Jobs Plan, and today the House took an important step in moving that forward by advancing two bipartisan bills. Led by Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson and Ranking Member Frank Lucas, the National Science Foundation for the Future Act and the Department of Energy Science for the Future Act will make vital investments in R&D, science, and our economic competitiveness, and re-affirm the role of science in helping us solve major challenges like the climate crisis.

Manufacturing, and the innovation fueling it, are the backbone of the American economy, and they’re powered by the American workers and unions who help build our middle-class and the strongest, most dynamic economy in the world. But decades of neglect and disinvestment have left us at a competitive disadvantage as countries across the globe, like China, have poured money and focus into new technologies and industries, leaving us at real risk of being left behind.

We need historic—once in a generation—investments in our competitiveness that support R&D, innovation, our semiconductor industry, and advanced manufacturing to grow our economy and create good-paying middle-class jobs in every corner of America. By rebuilding those domestic sources of strength, we can out-compete China and the rest of the world for years to come.

I was pleased to see the Senate pass crucially important investments in our domestic strength through the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act with massive bipartisan support, and I’m heartened today to see the House pass similar bipartisan investments in R&D and science tonight. These pieces of legislation—and the agreement reached on the infrastructure framework last week—show the American people, and the world, that we’re capable of coming together as a country and setting aside our differences to make transformational investments that will strengthen us both at home and abroad. My Administration looks forward to continuing to work with the House and the Senate in producing a final bill I can sign.

EU raises another €15bn for Covid-recovery effort
https://www.pv-magazine.com/2021/06/30/eu-raises-another-e15bn-for-covid-recovery-effort/
JUNE 30, 2021

The EU is conducting a near-€800 billion fundraising plan to borrow around €150 billion per year to the end of 2026 in order to offer €408 billion in grants and €386 billion in credit lines to member states attempting to rebuild their economies after the pandemic. EU nations must devote at least 37% of their planned ‘recovery and resilience' spending to green investment.

New IRS Safe Harbor Notice Provides Needed Relief and Clarity for Solar Companies
https://www.seia.org/news/new-irs-safe-harbor-notice-provides-needed-relief-and-clarity-solar-companies
JUNE 29, 2021
"
Following is statement from Abigail Ross Hopper, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) on this critical new notice:

“Many solar companies have faced significant disruptions to their project timelines due to COVID-19, and this new notice from the IRS will give them much-needed breathing room to complete these projects.

“Over the last year and a half, the pandemic disrupted supply chains, shipping and construction operations, permitting processes and financing timelines. Without clarity on safe harbor rules from the IRS, some of these solar projects, and the local economic benefits they bring, would not have made it across the finish line. Businesses now have the certainty they need to keep these projects moving forward, and we thank our federal leaders at the Treasury Department for making this decision.

“The solar industry is leading America’s economic recovery and is a critical part of the solution to climate change. As we continue to work with Congressional allies on strong federal policies that will grow the solar industry and meet our climate goals, solar companies are working every day to bring billions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs to local communities. This meaningful IRS action will help this job creation continue.”

Michael Koenig slutter i Elkem på dagen. Hvor skal han nå?
Mer spennende utvikling i REC?

Følg samme kursgraf for mange esg grafer.

https://www.tradingview.com/x/cCOcjZcy/

Ingen grafer går RETT uten noen korrigeringer på veien.
Trenden går opp og gjort i over 1 1/2 mnd.

SK Innovation pumps $26bn into EV batteries to quintuple output
https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Technology/SK-Innovation-pumps-26bn-into-EV-batteries-to-quintuple-output
JULY 2, 2021*
"
SEOUL -- SK Innovation will spend 30 trillion won ($26.5 billion) on its electric vehicle battery business over the next five years, the South Korean energy and materials company said Thursday, looking to multiply production capacity by a factor of five to capture surging global demand.

The world's sixth-largest battery producer reports already having orders worth 130 billion won on its books.

"We are transitioning from carbon to green, and we will transform into an energy and materials company that is good for the environment," CEO and President Kim Jun said during a business strategy briefing in Seoul.

SK Innovation's EV battery operations accounted for just 5% of the company's 34 trillion won in revenue last year. The oil refining and distribution business generated more than 60% of sales, while petrochemicals contributed over 20%.

Yet the South Korean company positions batteries as a growth driver. It landed long-term supply contracts with the Hyundai Motor group, Volkswagen, Ford Motor and other big-name automakers.

SK Innovation is building five new factories in the U.S., Europe and China. The company targets production capacity of 200 gigawatt-hours by 2025, up from 40 GWh at present.

The supplier envisions spinning off the battery unit and taking it public to raise funds for the expansion.

"We should quickly carry out the spinoff so that we don't miss out on the best time to invest," said Ji Dong-seop, the head of SK Innovation's battery business.

SK Innovation held just a 5.2% share of the global EV battery market in 2020, Tokyo analytics firm Techno Systems Research says. The field is led by China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd. (CATL), along with South Korea's LG Chem and Panasonic of Japan.

"We will rise to the world's top three by late 2022," Ji said.

Global Semiconductor Sales in May Up 26.2% Year-to-Year, 4.1% Month-to-Month
https://www.semiconductors.org/global-semiconductor-sales-in-may-up-26-2-year-to-year-4-1-month-to-month
JULY 6, 2021
"
WASHINGTON—July 6, 2021—The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) today announced global semiconductor industry sales were $43.6 billion in the month of May 2021, an increase of 26.2% over the May 2020 total of $34.6 billion and 4.1% more than the April 2021 total of $41.9 billion. Monthly sales are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization and represent a three-month moving average. SIA represents 98% of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms.

“Global demand for semiconductors remained high in May, as sales increased both year-to-year and month-to-month across all major regional markets,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “The industry shipped more units on a three-month moving basis in May than during any previous month in the market’s history, indicating semiconductor production has ramped up significantly to address rising demand.”

Regionally, year-to-year sales increased in Europe (31.2%), Asia Pacific/All Other (30.9%), China (26.1%), the Americas (20.9%), and Japan (20.4%). Month-to-month sales increased in the Americas (5.9%), China (5.4%), Japan (3.1%), Asia Pacific/All Other (2.6%), and Europe (1.1%).
