Enevate Corporation, developer of a silicon-dominant composite anode material and high energy density batteries (earlier post), announced that LG Chem has participated in Enevate’s recent funding.
Introduced in November 2017, Enevate’s HD-Energy Technology for EVs enables Lithium-ion (Li-ion) cells with up to 50% higher capacity than conventional graphite cells. The cells can be charged to 75% capacity in five minutes. They can also safely charge and discharge down to -40°C and capture more energy during regenerative braking, extending their range in cold climates.
Enevate’s HD-Energy Technology is a self-standing, silicon-dominant composite anode with more than 70% silicon. The conductive, silicon-dominant composite film anode is essentially 100% active material that can store lithium and has a high electrical conductivity.

TT bør skjerpe seg i neste uke. Håper å høre Recs visjoner innen batteriindustrien, og forhåpentligvis noen visjoner om hvor stort dette kan bli. Markedet må jo bli noe helt vanvittig megastort. Hele byer skal driftes på kun batterier og sol. I tillegg har man biler, fly, tog, skip...Tror ikke folk skjønner rekkevidden av hva dette innebærer.

Flying. Fremtiden er nok sol og utstrakt lagring via batterier, MEN om REC får ta del i noe av dette, er vel mer usikkert. Torvald var jo sjarmerende ærlig når han fortalte at dette hadde han ikke noe greie på!? Blir spennende å høre på torsdag om status er uendret, eller om han har fått lest seg opp litt. Ser vel for meg at de bøkene som ligger på nattbordet der er historien om Kinas dominans som produsent.

Vel og bra det dere skriver men i bunn og grunn er det Prod. Kostnaden som betyr noe for de dresskledde. Slik det er nå er det ingen som slår kineserne eller Indre Mongolia da kraft krevende industri blir subsidiert med billig kullkraft. I disse miljø tidene burde noen fremme forslaget om grønne sertifikatet på det som blir produsert:-) da hadde plutselig Rec vært kost ledene igjen:-)

BEIJING/SEOUL (Reuters) - China has scrapped its list of recommended battery suppliers, the industry ministry said on Monday, a decision foreign companies said could open up the world’s biggest market for electric vehicle batteries.
China, the world’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) market, has seen increased investment from South Korean battery makers LG Chem Ltd and Samsung SDI Co Ltd amid expectations for a gradual change in policy.
The list, which did not include foreign firms when it was first published in 2015 to spur a domestic battery sector, was abolished on Friday as part of government management reforms, the ministry said on its website. It gave no further details.
Foreign makers complained the list discouraged competition and became linked to generous subsidies for recommended domestic companies such as Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and BYD Co Ltd.
“We are relieved that these lists are going away, but we cannot be certain if the Chinese government is committed to abolish subsidies until they actually remove all subsidy policies,” said an official at one foreign battery maker who declined to be named.
China has raised its standards for new energy vehicles (NEV) that qualify for subsidies and reduced the amount it is willing to provide to relevant companies, as it looks to wean the sector off government support.
Growth in NEV sales has slowed in recent months after growing rapidly in past years.

Jeg tipper vi i en periode får se flere ulike typer batterier. Fordelen med batterier er at de kan brukes om hverandre, uavhengig av den bakenforliggende teknologien. Så det blir ikke nødvendigvis noen «formatkrig», da de kan eksistere side om side. Så vil den sikreste, mest effektive og mest kostnadsbesparende teknologien vinne frem til slutt. Jeg gjetter silisiumanoder blir mest utbredt til å begynne med (batteriene lages med eksisterende tooling = mye billigere på kort sikt) mens solid state nok kan ta over som det store etterhvert.

Nøyaktig hva, vet vi ennå ikke. Flere andre jobber med å utvikle slike batterier, og alt fra en spesiell type glass til mineralet granat kan være mulig innmat.

Elkem to establish battery graphite pilot plant in Kristiansand, Norway
Elkem invests 65 million NOK in a pilot plant for battery graphite located at
Elkem Carbon's industrial site at Fiskå, Kristiansand. The aim of the pilot is
to conclude process route and qualify products, as a basis for evaluating full
-scale industrial production.
The lithium-ion battery market is expected to grow significantly the coming
decade, driven by electrification of transportation and energy storage, and also
other applications such as power tools, e-bikes and portable electronics.
Graphite is the dominating anode material in lithium-ion battery cells and
demand is expected to increase more than ten times from today's annual level of
150,000-200,000 tonnes over the next ten years. Meeting this demand requires
significant new production capacity.
"The forecast for 2030 assumes that anything between 22% to 30% of the new sale
of vehicles will be electric, and there are strong growth projections for other
segments requiring battery technology and capacity. There are significant growth
opportunities for a specialised product with a green footprint. Through our
global position as an advanced materials company leveraging leading research on
future materials and access to hydro power for production we have a unique
position", says CEO of Elkem, Helge Aasen.
"It is a pleasure to announce that we are moving forward and investing in a
pilot for battery graphite. The aim of the pilot is to conclude process route
and qualify products. This is a natural step towards an industrial line for
battery graphite in Norway, and we will get considerable synergies by

Rent grafén. Hmm.. Hvis det er planen får vi vel vente 20-30 år til eller noe. Todimensjonale metamaterialer har vist seg svææært vanskelig å masseprodusere i store kvanta. Blir vel som å vente på en funksjonell kvantedatamaskin. Derimot, å bruke grafén som en bestanddel for å manipulere frem andre materialers beste egenskaper, er nok mer realistisk i denne omgang. Derfor ser vi for eksempel kombinasjonen grafén/silisium i anoder.

Tror dette skyldes at de har så store mengder silangass at det må flere batteriprodusenter til for å ta unna, og at det foreløpig ikke eksisterer en stor aktør som kan ta hele kapasiteten. Forsto det slik da TT snakket om saken.....

Hvorfor man ikke ønsker å inngå en bindende avtale er interessant.. Hvorfor skulle ikke REC ønske å binde seg til å selge et bestemt volum for en bestemt pris?

Ja, silan må vel kunne likvidiseres og fraktes? TT har jo også sagt at det har vært foretatt små silanleveranser til batteriproduksjon. Disse leveransene må da ha blitt fraktet?
Uansett, det er ikke veldig hyppig med nyheter på sil-batterifronten for tiden. Jeg prøver å få med meg det som er og poste det her.

*Grab; TT sa på siste tallslipp at det ikke var mulig å frakte Silane (ifm anode). Det kan vel ikke stemme.
Men jeg er heller (heldigvis) ikke inni hodet hans, så vet ikke hva han mente - annet at
frakt-problemet var årsak til at batteriprodusenter ville trenge fabrikk(er) nær REC.
-Men Silane lar seg i hvertfall (normalt) frakte

PV conductive paste maker Giga Solar Materials is setting up production lines for pure silicon and silicon dioxide (silica) used as anode materials of batteries in Taiwan and those for cathode materials of LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries at its factory in eastern China, according to company chairman Jimmy Chen.
Giga Solar has been developing these materials for 5-6 years, Chen said at a shareholders meeting on June 5.
The production lines in Taiwan will be completed by the end of second-quarter 2019 and kick off production in the following quarter, with shipments to begin in the fourth quarter, Chen noted. Pure silicon and silicon dioxide will be mainly shipped to Long Time Technology, a maker of natural and artificial graphite used as anode materials. Giga Solar is a shareholder of Long Time.
The production of cathode materials of LFP batteries will begin in December 2019, and Giga Solar will supply the materials for outsourced production of LFP batteries in China.
Having also invested in PV power generation projects, Giga Solar on June 4 sold a 100% stake in a PV power-generating station in southern Taiwan to Chenya Energy at NT$236 million (US$7.5 million). The capital gain from the sale is NT$213.3 million.

Interessant. De nyere, "higher density" batteriene til Tesla inneholder mer silisium enn de gamle. Fortsatt ikke veldig mye, men alle monner drar :)

Anodene som brukes veier 1000 kg og spises raskt opp under elektrolysen. Nye anoder kreves hele tiden. Mulig det er rett at silisium ikke kan brukes.

Flyers, du er på villspor her. Anoder i aluminiumsindustrien inneholder ikke silisium. Dette vil da bare bli ett fremmedstoff i smeltebadet som fortrinnsvis inneholder Al - aluminium.
