Aided by investor demand, Korean companies are scaling up bond issues ahead of further policy rate hikes

Hanwha Solutions Corp. is selling 380 billion won in domestic debt on Jan. 24 at an annual interest rate between 2.8 and 3%, according to its public disclosure. The bond sale will mark the company's largest-ever debt issuance in its 57-year history, or 65% more than its initially planned 230 billion won.

The bulk of the proceeds will go to its solar cell and module production lines.

https://www.kedglobal.com/newsPrint/ked202201230001?lang=%C2%A0

380 billion won = $ 316 851 524

Når mesteparten av dette skal brukes til solar cell og module produksjon så er det kanskje mulig at de er Hanwha som kjøper nabobygget.

Prisen på bygget er $ 37 000 000

The US government last June ordered a halt to imports of polysilicon, a raw material for solar panels, from China-based Hoshine Silicon Industry to put pressure on Beijing over the alleged internment of more than 1m Uyghurs and Muslim minorities in Xinjiang province.

The order has ensnared far more shipments than expected. Some international suppliers outside of China have struggled to navigate the complicated new rules for proving their product is free of Xinjiang-linked polysilicon

Clean Energy Companies Urge Congress to Pass Build Back Better Act
https://www.seia.org/research-resources/clean-energy-companies-urge-congress-pass-build-back-better-act
JANUARY 24, 2022

Dear Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi:

As companies committed to building America’s clean energy future, we write to thank you for your leadership and to encourage you to finalize negotiations on the Build Back Better Act (BBBA) as soon as possible this year. The time to act is now.

Each month of delay means an estimated $2 billion in lost economic activity. That means missed economic opportunities in energy transition communities. That means fewer jobs in domestic mills producing steel for solar and wind projects. And it means a delay in building the American manufacturing base and workforce into a global clean energy powerhouse.

The clean energy and manufacturing provisions in the BBBA must take effect January 1, 2022 to take full advantage of the unprecedented private sector commitment to clean energy projects and to create good paying jobs in every state. As leaders in the clean energy industry, we stand ready to deploy tens of billions of dollars to expand our domestic manufacturing capacity and to employ American workers to build the equipment and projects to power our clean energy transition.

The Build Back Better Act will more than double clean energy investment to $750 billion over the
next ten years, supporting one million, good-paying American jobs over the same period of time. As a result, the United States will be able to reach 750 GW of wind, solar and battery storage by 2030 and cut power sector emissions by nearly 70% below 2005 levels. That is the equivalent of 175 million American homes being powered by low-cost, reliable clean energy.
These clean energy initiatives represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Congress to take big, bold action to deliver the clean energy future Americans want and deserve. We stand with you to get that job done.
Sincerely,

Continuing and Updated Guidance Regarding Forced Labor in Xinjiang, China And The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act of 2021

The Uyghur Act tasks the US Government with issuing guidance on compliance with the Uyghur Act, following a period of stakeholder comment. The Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force (“FLETF”) is to prepare both a list of high-priority sectors subject to CBP enforcement and a sector-specific enforcement plan for each of these high-priority sectors. Building upon prior CBP guidance, the Uyghur Act mandates that cotton, tomatoes, and polysilicon must be among these high-priority sectors. The addition of polysilicon on this list of high-priority sectors directly impacts the U.S. solar energy industry: nearly half of the world’s polysilicon — a key material for the manufacture of solar panels — is produced in Xinjiang.

For your reading list this week: John Thornhill of Financial Times dives into the EV industry, noting that innovators and economists often look to “complements” like ample charging infrastructure or high-performance batteries to help the market grow & to meet consumer demand.

In an industry intent on improving energy capabilities, our lithium-silicon battery technology is already proven to help eliminate range anxiety for drivers so they can commute, run errands or take a roadtrip without worrying about their next charging stop. 😎 Dare to rethink what’s possible for EV energy density and join us in the fast lane toward an all-electric future.

He said Europe might need 30 GW per year of capacity in this regard but added other countries like the United States and India had more ambitious targets.

"Our idea is to think of a possible copy and paste of this factory to other markets, like the United States," he said.

PRESS RELEASE: SEMI Applauds House Introduction of America Competes Act of 2022 with Funding for CHIPS Act

SEMI Applauds House Introduction of America Competes Act of 2022 with Funding for CHIPS Act

MILPITAS, Calif. – January 25, 2022 – SEMI, the industry association serving the global electronics design and manufacturing supply chain, today applauded the introduction of the America Competes Act of 2022 in the United States House of Representatives. The bill includes funding for the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors for America (CHIPS) Act, earmarked to strengthen U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and research.

“We are very pleased to see the House move forward to introduce the America Competes Act of 2022 including robust funding for the CHIPS Act programs,” said Ajit Manocha, SEMI president and CEO. “The bill also ensures equipment and materials suppliers can access the Section 9902 grant program, which will strengthen the semiconductor supply chain in the United States to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. These programs will attract new manufacturing facilities – both chip fabs and upstream suppliers – and support technologies that countless industries in the U.S. and around the world depend on. The bill will also bolster workforce development programs, helping to equip workers with the skills needed in today’s semiconductor industry. We look forward to working with Congress and the Biden Administration to enact this funding into law.”

“Additionally, we urge quick action on the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit and restoration of the ability to immediately deduct research expenses which was removed at the start of this year,” Manocha said.

SKC, a chemical unit of South Korea’s No. 3 conglomerate SK Group, said Wednesday it has invested $80 million with partners to secure next-generation electric vehicle batteries technologies.

According to SKC, it formed a consortium with SJL Partners, BNW Investment and Kiwoom PE and invested $80 million in Nexeon, which develops materials that go inside the minus sides of electric vehicle batteries.

EV batteries have plus sides and minus sides. Typically, the minus sides are made of graphite, the same material found inside pencils. Graphite helps EV batteries to stabilize.

To further enhance the performance of EV batteries, the industry is adding silicon to graphite. Established in 2006, Nexeon is equipped with technologies and patents to mass-produce a mixture of silicon and graphite in a short period, SKC claims.

The deeply disappointing decision today by the WTO arbitrator reflects erroneous Appellate Body interpretations that damage the ability of WTO Members to defend our workers and businesses from China’s trade-distorting subsidies. Today’s decision reinforces the need to reform WTO rules and dispute settlement, which have been used to shield China’s non-market economic practices and undermine fair, market-oriented competition. The Biden Administration will continue to use all our tools to stand up for the interests of America’s workers, businesses, farmers and producers, and strengthen our middle class.
