Oppdatert kursmål fra Clarkson i dag: We revise our Price Target (PT) for Capsol Technologies (CAPSL NO, Buy) upward to NOK 28/sh, from previous NOK 25/sh, and reiterate our Buy recommendation on the equity. This adjustment mainly reflects new licensing revenue guidance from the company, upped from EUR 7-12/t to EUR 10-15/t installed capacity.

Fra TI: "Fra Clarksons idag: “This innovation not only makes gas turbines as efficient as their combined cycle counterparts but also positions them as a competitive solution in the market. Preliminary results affirm the technology’s performance and efficiency, aligning with the company’s projection of achieving the lowest capture costs in the industry and even the potential to be profit generating. We have previously emphasized our interest in the CapsolGT due to the vast, untapped market for decarbonizing gas turbines. This interest is bolstered by the efficiency gains that provide an added incentive for installation. In the current landscape, there are approximately 2,200 gas turbines in the US and an additional 800 in Europe, presenting substantial opportunities for retrofitting. According to the EIA, natural gas constituted 43% of the US energy consumption last year. Despite the growth in renewable power generation, the capacity for gas turbines is also expected to expand. This expansion is driven by the dual needs for renewable backup power and reliable baseload power, essential for phasing out coal and accommodating the increased electricity demands spurred by the AI revolution”

Clarksons: European Commission approves €3bn state aid for BECCS projects in Sweden

The European Commission has approved a €3bn state aid scheme in Sweden to support BECCS projects, which focus on capturing and storing carbon from biogenic emissions. Stockholm Exergi, which is Capsol Technologies’ (CAPSL NO, Buy) first licensing project, aim to secure support through this scheme, targeting FID by 4Q24.

Carbon Capture and Storage

CAPSL : European Commission approves €3bn state aid for BECCS projects in Sweden - The European Commission has approved a €3bn state aid scheme in Sweden to support BECCS projects, which focus on capturing and storing carbon from biogenic emissions. This scheme will allocate funding through a competitive bidding process. Eligible companies must operate in Sweden, have biogenic emissions, and have a minimum carbon capture capacity of 50ktpa. The first auction is anticipated in 2024 and will continue until the end of 2028. Successful bidders will receive grants based on the amount of biogenic CO2 permanently stored, under 15-year contracts. These grants will be adjusted to account for additional project-related revenues, such as carbon removal credits and other public funding received. Stockholm Exergi, which is Capsol Technologies’ (CAPSL NO, Buy) first licensing project, aim to secure support through this scheme, targeting FID by 4Q24. While the auction outcome is still uncertain, we believe Stockholm Exergi is well-positioned with an 800 ktpa capture capacity and most of its remaining funding already secured. This approval from the European Commission, in our view, advances the project towards its FID target, and hence the first licensing payment to CAPSL.

Capsol Technologies ASA: SCHWENK orders CapsolGo® carbon capture demonstration campaigns for two cement plants

Oslo, Norway - August 13, 2024

Capsol Technologies has signed a contract for the delivery of two CapsolGo® carbon capture demonstration campaigns at SCHWENK’s Building Material Group’s Brocēni cement plant in Latvia and the Akmenės Cementas cement plant in Lithuania.

The CapsolGo® demonstration campaigns follow a feasibility study done by Capsol for the Brocēni cement plant earlier this year and will be delivered as all-inclusive services with a testing and validation program, providing SCHWENK with valuable data and information on the CapsolEoP® (End-of-Pipe) capture technology. The demonstration period will be Q4 2024 to Q4 2025.

SCHWENK is part of the CCS Baltic Consortium which was granted the status of Project of Common Interest (PCI) by the European Commission in May 2024, aiming to transport captured CO2 from Lithuania and Latvia to permanent storage sites, potentially in the North Sea.

“CapsolEoP® offers lower energy consumption with higher CO2 concentration than competitive technologies, and the capture cost for cement owners is reduced further as it doesn’t require external steam supply. We are looking forward to demonstrating our technology on SCHWENK’s cement plants. The company is one of the most innovative building materials producers in Europe and are playing an active role in progressing carbon capture and storage in the Baltic region”, says Philipp Staggat, Chief Product Officer of Capsol Technologies.

“Succeeding with carbon capture will be essential for our industry over the next decade and a commitment to future generations. It presents a significant technical challenge and is necessary for ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of industrial sites like ours.” says Reinhold Schneider, CEO SCHWENK Northern Europe.

“In collaboration with our clients and stakeholders, we are dedicated to addressing these challenges. The implementation of CapsolEoP® technology at our Latvian and Lithuanian plants is a testament to our commitment, marking a significant stride towards the goal of capturing over 1.5 million tons of CO2 annually. This initiative is a cornerstone in our journey towards a more sustainable and responsible industry.” explains Arturas Zaremba, CEO
Akmenės cementas.

Fra TI: SB1 idag (Merk siste avsnitt 🙂 : SCHWENK orders demonstration unit campaign
Today, CAPSL announced that SCHWENK has ordered a demonstration unit campaign for two of its cement plants, one in Latvia and one in Lithuania. The campaign will run from Q4 2024 to Q4 2025, and include a liquefaction unit for part of this period.

According to our understanding, the terms of the contract are in line with CAPSL’s general expectation for test unit campaigns, meaning revenue of EUR 150-250k/month, though utilization will probably not be 100% through the 12-month period. Assuming 10 months of CapsolGo operations and 5 months of liquefaction unit operation, we arrive at an estimated contract value of roughly NOK 30m. Keep in mind that CAPSL generally expects EBITDA-margins of 50% for test-unit campaigns.

We view the contract award as positive, as it strengthens CAPSL’s foothold in the important cement market. That said, we do not expect to make any material estimate changes on the back of this, as we had already assumed that CAPSL would win additional test unit contracts (we model with 75% utilization on test units).

The two plants have a combined ambition to capture 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually. On our estimates, this represents a potential NOK ~220m of high-margin revenue to CAPSL if SCHWENK were to choose CAPSL’s technology for these two full-scale plants. Given that CAPSL’s market cap is currently NOK 900m, this could be substantial for the company.

Fra TI:
Sparebank1 Markets hever TP fra 22 til 24 i dagen oppdatering, samt vurderer muligheter for oppkjøp:

“We reiterate our Buy recommendation, and raise our target price from NOK 22 to NOK 24/sh. Target is upped following CAPSL’s hiked license fee guidance, but this is partly offset by lower near-term estimates, as no full-scale projects have been signed since our last update. In our view, CAPSL should be an attractive M&A target – both to EPC players looking to offer their own proprietary technology, and to other technology providers looking to broaden out their offering. Considering the recent deals in the CCUS space (particularly Schlumberger’s acquisition of ACC, and Occidental’s acquisition of Carbon Engineering), we believe something like this could happen sooner, rather than later”
