Update on Proposal
The POTENTIAL Consortium is selected by the European Commission to pursue its journey to digital European Identity. On 14/12/2022, the European Commission announced the results of the LSP on the European Digital Identity Wallet. The POTENTIAL Consortium is thrilled to share that its proposal, submitted in August 2022, has been selected by the European Commission.

148 participants from 19 EU member states and Ukraine gather in the POTENTIAL Consortium to pilot new coming EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) prototypes in six Use Cases (“Electronic Government services”, “Account opening”, “SIM registration”, “Mobile Driving Licence”, “Remote Qualified Electronic Signature”, and “Electronic Prescription”).
The POTENTIAL Consortium renews its commitment to implementing these pilots with ambition and determination.

All POTENTIAL participants are glad to be entrusted by the European Commission to build such pioneering Use Cases for cross-border testing of the digital European Identity. The POTENTIAL Consortium is now ready to engage into a round of negotiations with DG CONNECT which will be concluded by the signature of the Grant Agreement (GA) and the launch of the project, estimated beginning of May 2023.
Envisioning Europe's Digital Identity
The PilOTs for EuropeaN digiTal Identity wALlet (POTENTIAL) consortium for Digital Identity unites 20 countries represented by their national ministries as well as third parties and aims to improve citizens’ access to trusted and secure electronic identity means and services such as electronic signatures or attestations of attributes. This shall enable citizens to store their ID in a secure digital wallet valid across borders.
The mission is to shape and realize scenarios for testing the European Digital Identity Wallet being launched by the European Commission.
POTENTIAL launches six use cases in the fields of banking, mobility, health, and administration to pilot the usage of the European Digital Identity Wallet, offering several benefits:

India wants to launch its central bank digital currency at a national level by the end of 2023, but early into its pilot, the Reserve Bank of India has identified challenges, several people familiar with the matter said.


India launched two CBDC pilots last year. The first, a wholesale CBDC effort (CBDC-W), began on Nov. 1 with the participation of nine banks. The other, a retail CBDC (CBDC-R) pilot, launched on Dec. 1 in four cities – Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar. Initially, four banks, including the State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank and IDFC First Bank participated.
It has "now been extended to 15 cities with Chandigarh as the newest addition," a senior official told CoinDesk. "More than 50,000 customers and 10,000 small and big merchants have been onboarded now," including Reliance Retail, the nation's largest retail chain.

Its pilot scheme involves as many as 26 large cities and 5.6 million merchants, according to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Japans centralbank kommer dra igång ytterligare cbdc trails i mars nästa år. Den kommer involvera några av Japans storbanker. Trailen kommer pågå i två år. Därefter kan det bli aktuellt med lansering av digitala yen år 2026.

The planning for Brazil’s central bank digital currency, the Real Digital, is entering a new phase. The Banco Central do Brasil (BCB) has selected Giesecke+Devrient’s CBDC solution Filia for its dual offline payment capability in a challenge that evaluates use cases of a digital currency in the South American country.

The central bank’s digital currency (CBDC), the Real Digital, is to be launched in Brazil as early as 2024. This would position Brazil among the first major countries to have a CBDC as a complementary alternative to cash. In preparation for this major step, the Brazilian Central Bank in partnership with the national Federation of Associations of Banco Central Servers (Fenasbac) initiated the program „LIFT Challenge Real Digital“ to evaluate use cases and the best technologies for the ambitious project.
