IDEX Teams Up With Tier 1 Card Manufacturer

IDEX Biometrics has moved one step closer to the mass commercialization of biometric payment cards. To that end, the company has entered into a new strategic partnership with a tier one smart card manufacturer that creates cards for a global market.

IDEX did not disclose the name of its partner, though it did reveal that the arrangement will lower manufacturing costs for financial institutions that want to issue a biometric card. The arrangement will also take advantage of IDEX’s comprehensive biometric card platform, which comes with virtually everything that a client needs to get a new card up and running. That will minimize complexity and shorten development times, which will in turn allow financial institutions to bring new cards to market more quickly.

The turnkey biometric card platform combines IDEX’s TrustedBio fingerprint sensor module with an SLC38 Secure Element from Infineon. That hardware has been paired with IDEX’s new proprietary Card Operating System, and integrated with a range of financial applets and inlays through the IDEX and Infineon reference design that was unveiled back in July. IDEX is hoping that its new partner will accelerate the mass adoption of biometric cards in the next few years.

Bulgaria Prepares Rollout of Biometric IDs

Bulgaria will be rolling out a new biometric ID card starting June 17. The card features an embedded chip containing biometric data such as fingerprints and a photograph, with the aim of enhancing the security of the document and streamlining border crossings for Bulgarians traveling within the EU.

The new card will also support future use of electronic identity certificates for online authentication when accessing electronic services and information systems.

The biometric ID card is optional, and existing identity cards issued before June 17, 2024, will remain valid until August 2, 2031, or until their expiration date if it occurs earlier. The application process for the new card will be available at all “Bulgarian personal documents” units.

The implementation involves a consortium led by Mühlbauer, which secured a 240 million Bulgarian Leva contract (approximately $134 million) for a period of ten years. The consortium is responsible for the design and production of the new ID cards, as well as new residence cards and permits.

The move can be seen as part of Bulgaria’s ongoing efforts to modernize its identification systems and enhance security measures against forgery. The centralized system, funded partly by the EU’s Operational Programme Good Governance and the Internal Security Fund, aims to provide one of the most secure ID cards in Europe, featuring advanced anti-forgery protections such as a metallized photo on the back of the card.

Hva leverer Idex til dette kortet?

Spør du meg så kommenterte jeg på att fingeravtrykk på kort kommer nok mer og mer, og er det noe Idex driver med så er det vel fingeravtrykk på kort. Om de har levert til dette kortet har jeg ingen formening om. Jeg er opptatt av trenden.

Så når jeg leser dette så stoler jeg på att det er sant, trenger vel ikke se ett bilde av det?
Selv om jeg går ut i fra att dette ikke er samme type chip.

Det er veldig enkelt egentlig...

Det fine med dagens ordre, er jo at kunden har klart å videreselge produktet iløpet. av relativ kort tid, så markedet er der ihvertfall.
Kunne selvsagt vært fint om det ble oppgitt en fin sum på ordren.Uansett melder de sikker ikke ordre på mikke mus summer.
