Tomra - EUs plastdirektiv endelig vedtatt!

EU leaders approve single-use plastics law

The final stamp of approval has been given to a European Union law banning certain single-use plastic products, setting high bottle collection targets and requiring recycled content in bottles.

The Council of the European Union approved the single-use plastic product directive. The European Commission and the European Parliament, the two other lawmaking branches, have already signed off on it.

The directive bans single-use plastic plates, cutlery, straws, balloon sticks and cotton swabs by 2021. It sets a 90% collection target for plastic bottles by 2029, and it mandates that plastic bottles be made of at least 25% recycled plastic by 2025 and 30% by 2030.

The EU has 28 member countries, all of which are required to amend their national laws within the next two years to reflect the requirements of the single-use plastics directive.

First proposed by the European Commission a year ago, the directive was negotiated and approved by other EU entities last fall and earlier this year.

Europe faces challenges in meeting plastic bottle recovery target

The European recycling industry is going to miss a 2025 target for recycling PET bottles unless there is a reversal of the slowing growth rate in recycling, according to a new study by ICIS. The study also found evidence that bottle-deposit schemes are working better as an incentive than market prices for recycled material.

31.07.2019

...

Today, the results of a study conducted by ICIS on the 2018 market were released, which looked at the supply chain: collection, recycling and end-use of PET. The report is a collaborative effort including national authorities, compliance agencies, deposit return schemes and recyclers. The conclusion is that the PET bottle collection rate in western Europe has risen from 58% in 2016 to 63% in 2018 and is projected to reach 65% in 2019. Under the SUP Directive the industry is required to reach recovery rates of 77% by 2025 and 90% by 2029, but the collection volume growth rate is currently falling. ICIS estimates that the volume of collected material will need to increase by 7% per annum if the 2029 target is to be met.

...

According to ICIS The top seven highest collection rates in 2018 were found in countries with a deposit return scheme (DRS) in place for PET bottle collection, perhaps evidence that such systems are what is needed to produce the outcomes required in terms of quantity and quality improvements. Regulation is seen as the most effective way to drive investment in recycling

Ja, vanskelig å tenke seg annet enn at Tomras sorteringsteknologi for blandet plastavfall inntar hovedtollen her når vi ser at det er nettopp det som skjer når Europas aller nyeste "state of the art" resirkuleringsanlegg bygges.
