Our recyclates are selling like hot bread,’ Ziogas says with a smile.

He, he.

More than 52% of plastic scrap is being recycling in Bulgaria. This makes the country one of the top performers considering the average EU recycling rate is only 42%. Sorting specialist Tomra organised an exclusive plastics recycling event in Sofia to showcase its recycling equipment running at the new Integra Plastics plant.

Start-up recycling firm Integra Plastics opened its doors yesterday to a group of more than 200 delegates. The special occassion was a tour of the brand-new EUR 40 million plastics recycling facility in Elin Pelin, a small town on the outskirts of Sofia. The ‘unique’ site opened in February and is running successfully, handling 30 000 tonnes of post-consumer plastics.

Our specialty is the production of top quality low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene and polypropylene granules – in various colours,’ says Kostas Ziogas, sales & supplies director. He collaborated intensively with sorting technology specialist Tomra to optimise the plant. ‘We are now able to achieve a purity of 99.5% thanks to Tomra,’ he adds. Most of the input comes from Germany. Integra is also in talks with big players in Scandinavia and the Netherlands to source more plastic scrap and widen its circular impact.

The new facility features a line with five different steps; pre-sorting, optical sorting , washing, drying and extrusion. The recycling site operates 24/7, supported by a crew of 85 people. Plastic pellets make up around 65% of the final product. ‘Our recyclates are selling like hot bread,’ Ziogas says with a smile.

Her blir jeg sittende. Lenge. ☺

Stefan både presenterte som foredragsholder og deltok i paneldebatt rundt tematikken “plastics and a circular bio-economy”.

TOMRA’S CEO DISCUSSES PLASTIC WASTE SOLUTIONS AT WORLD CIRCULAR ECONOMY FORUM

Plastic waste was top of the agenda at the prestigious World Circular Economy Forum this week. TOMRA’s President and CEO, Stefan Ranstrand, presented at the invitation-only event and debated in a panel on solving the plastics waste crisis.

06 June 2019

Held in Helsinki, Finland, from June 3-5, the World Circular Economy Forum is an exclusive annual event organised by the Finnish Innovation Fund, which brings together key circular economy influencers from around the world.

This year, hundreds of representatives from business and government gathered to collaborate on innovations and ideas to achieve a circular economy.

Stefan was very pleased to participate in the panel discussion on “plastics and a circular bio-economy.” He was joined by three leading thinkers from Finnish renewable products provider Kotkamills and technical research centre VTT, as well as the Chinese Reuse and Recycling Association.

During the discussion, Stefan shed a light on the plastic waste crisis currently facing the world and explored the impact that collaborative action and innovative technology can make. There are huge financial, social and environmental opportunities to be found in “closing the loop” on plastics and creating a circular economy.

Presenting to delegates at the World Circular Economy Forum, Stefan said: “Plastic is undoubtedly the workhorse material of the modern economy. It has unrivalled functionality and is cheap to produce, but as its popularity continues to rise so does the amount of waste and pollution.”

“Plastics are a major source of waste in landfills. Every year eight tonnes of plastic leak into the ocean, meaning there are 150 tonnes in the ocean today and by 2050 there is estimated to be more plastic in the ocean than fish, by weight.”

“TOMRA’s sensor-based solutions are helping to stem this tide and have a positive effect around the world. Our reverse vending machines collect 40 billion containers globally, and our sorting technology efficiently sorts mixed waste, reducing landfill pollution and creating economic opportunities.”

“However, in order to truly make an impact on the current plastic waste crisis, businesses and governments must collaborate to stop plastics leaking into and polluting the environment. With around 95 per cent of plastic packaging material value lost to the economy, we need to unlock this economic potential and unleash up to $85bn into the global economy each year.”

Stefan concluded by setting out TOMRA’s ambitious vision for increasing closed-loop recycling. He added: “Currently only two percent of plastic packaging is closed-loop recycled. We want this to be 30 percent by 2030.”

“We believe this can be achieved, in large part through smart solutions for optimizing resources. Sourcing them, stewarding them, reclaiming them, recycling and revitalizing them. To make the most effective use of our resources and ensure protect the planet for years to come.”

Jeg gjør det over to innlegg.

Tomra’s global conference focuses on plastics recycling

Industry leaders share solutions for tackling plastic scrap, conference attendees tour $40M plastics recycling plant in Bulgaria.

June 11, 2019
Posted by Kelly Maile

Leaders in the recycling and waste management industries discussed solutions to the problems posed by plastic scrap at the Tomra Leads Global Conference 2019 June 4-5 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

With the theme “Recycling in a Plastic World,” the two-day event focused on trends and innovations throughout the plastic value chain. More than 200 delegates from 31 countries were also given the opportunity to see how Germany-based Tomra Sorting Recycling's technologies recover reusable materials from household waste at Elin Pelin, Bulgaria-based Integra Plastics’ new 40-million-euro plastics recycling plant.

The third biannual Tomra Leads event was “designed to share knowledge and accelerate progress in recycling and waste management” through keynote speeches, presentations, discussions and networking opportunities, Tomra says in a news release.

“The Tomra Leads conferences are proving to be a useful and popular forum for the exchange of information and ideas,” says Tom Eng, senior vice president and head of Tomra Sorting Recycling. “The focus of this year’s event was something which deeply concerns hundreds of millions of people all over the world: What can be done to tackle the discarded plastic piling up at landfill sites, drifting in oceans and killing marine life. The conference showed how recycling plastic [scrap] has a vital role to play, and how, at the same time as benefiting the environment, this is also a commercial opportunity.”

On the second day of the conference, speakers shared expert insights into the direction of the recycling market, the circular economy and the role of virgin materials and financial investment models. Eng opened the conference with a welcome speech titled, “The future of recycling—Are you ready?”

...

On a tour of Integra Plastics, which opened February 2019, conference attendees learned the new plant employs 85 people and 14 Tomra Autosort machines. One Autosort is combined with the laser object direction (LOD) system and two were designed for the plant to sort out black film plastics. The facility has capacity to recycle 40,000 tons of mixed-color postconsumer film plastics per year.

Integra’s specialty is the production of high-quality recycled low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) granules. Attendees were shown Integra’s entire process for plastic recycling, which starts with plastic scrap arriving in bales and cut by a large shredder.

The shredded material moves along more than one kilometer of conveyor belts, where a magnet and a screen filter out unwanted materials, including metals. The material is then sorted by Tomra machines into six streams, by polyolefin type and color. After hot washing and drying, the plastic flakes are cleaned of any remaining impurities, colors and materials through additional Tomra units before being forwarded for regranulation, where plastics are compressed, melted, filtered, degassed, homogenized and made into pellets.

The pellets are packed into 1-ton bags, ready for reuse in a wide range of applications. At the facility, Integra produces customized resin qualities, including different material grades combined with different colors.

Establishing highly refined plastic packaging waste streams

12. Juni 2019152

Plastics Recyclers Europe releases guidance on quality sorting of plastic packaging.

Plastic packaging represents the biggest share of the European plastic demand, and consequently, of the waste that is generated and collected for recycling in Europe. However, today only 42 per cent of plastic packaging waste is recycled in Europe, highlighting the need for more sustainable and effective waste management practices. In order to recapture the true value of packaging and transform it into new high-quality product, the industry must focus on optimising the current reprocessing practices of this valuable resource. Increasing the amount, and more importantly, the quality of recycled output is among other factors directly affected by the quality of sorting practices. It is imperative, therefore, to ensure that the value of packaging materials treated at the sorting facilities is fully optimised to ultimately secure high-quality input for recyclers.

The Plastics Recyclers Europe guidance provides an overview of the best sorting practices and presents a basic configuration that is indispensable for the adequate sorting of plastic packaging waste. To optimise the output quality, in a sorting facility plastic packaging should be automatically sorted through a series of consecutive steps, increasing the efficiency as well as the effectiveness of establishing highly refined waste streams. Removing contamination and sorting out packaging according to polymer types, and optionally by colour and product categories, is a prerequisite for securing high-quality recycling input. Furthermore, the guidance advocates a standardisation, as well as harmonisation of such sorting practices, as this would ensure a more uniform and reliable flow of materials towards recycling facilities.

Plastics Strategy highlights the importance of quality sorting as “essential to avoid introducing contaminants in the recycling streams and retain high safety standards for recycled materials.” In Europe, the groundwork, however, has been laid out as high-quality sorting practices that could be EU-wide implemented do exist already. The challenge, nevertheless, is to create a system where all the complementing steps, such as separate packaging waste collection, harmonised sorting standards and bales quality checks are optimised and equally enforced at the Member State level.

It is thus essential to promote the separate collection of plastic packaging waste, and at the same time to create standards which will promote best practices in sorting and bales specifications for sorted plastic packaging waste. With these efforts, we can genuinely capture the value of plastic waste and transform it into new high-quality products, produced in accordance with the highest European safety standards. High-quality sorting of plastic packaging waste will lead to an increased productivity and improved cost-efficiency of the recycling processes, resulting in the production of high-quality recyclates. Such measures are essential if the industry is to move closer towards circular economy.

Voila! Enjoy!

MyReplast tries to recycle high efficiency

The first plant for the recycling of plastics of the Maire Tecnimont Group was inaugurated in the province of Brescia. 40,000 T/A with an declared yield of 95%.

June 13, 2019 11:44

NextChem, the company in the green chemistry created at the end of last Year By Maire Tecnimont, inaugurated yesterday in Bedizzole, in the province of Brescia, the plant for the recycling of plastics MyReplast Industries, which-also exploiting proprietary technologies-would be able to achieve a yield of 95%, obtaining at the end of the process a ready-to-use compound formulated on the specific needs of customers.

Advanced selection. The capacity is equal to more than 40 thousand tonnes of recycled polymers, starting from various types of post-consumer plastic waste coming from domestic waste selection centres, commercial platforms or industrial waste ( automobile components, food and industrial packaging waste, excluding scraps.

To achieve such a high yield, an "advanced selection" of plastic waste is performed, using over a dozen optical sensor stations provided By The market leader Tomra Sorting Recycling, with the Which Maire Tecnimont has collaborated in the development of technologies optimized for its processes.
According to Valerio Coppini, commercial Director Of Nextchem, the plant is able to obtain separate fractions by color and type of polymer-in some cases even for application of provenance-, in such a way as to have a controlled flow that facilitates the next compounding phase.
The selection follows the phases of washing and separation of pollutants by flotation, followed by granulation.

Then there'S THE COMPOUNDING. The material thus obtained is in part sent to a nearby plant of MyReplast Industries (Rezzato, BS), where a compounding line is in operation with capacity around 15 thousand tonnes per year, and partly transferred to the market. By being able to manage the whole process, from the refusal coming from the selection centres to the ready-to-use compound, MyReplast Industries can guarantee the quality and traceability of the second raw material along the whole process and Provide customers with a product that is in line with their needs. "In addition to the quality and mechanical features, the goal is also to provide a competitive recycled material on the market," says Coppini.

In This project-explained Fabrizio Di Amato, president and founder of the group Maire Tecnimont-did not follow the normal flow that starts from the disposable plastic waste to get to a regenerated to be placed on the market, but has made the Road backwards, starting from the needs of customers, then from the compound; Based on these characteristics MyReplast Industries is able to select and treat the second raw material in the most appropriate way, so as to obtain a material as similar to the Virgin, then with an approach of "upcycling" and not of mere " Recycling ".

INDUSTRIAL APPROACH TO THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY. "Our approach to the circular economy is purely industrial -stressed by Amato-and for this reason we have dedicated capital and human resources. In other words we want to be industrialists at the same time sustainable and innovative.

"Thanks to our leadership in manufacturing plants for production of hydrocarbon polymers, with NextChem we can play an accelerator role of the circular economy-concluded-, contributing to the growth of a new cycle Economic and employment that needs overall vision, industrial skills and entrepreneurial ability. In this field Italy can aspire to lead the transition to green chemistry, thanks to its great tradition of research, technology and industry.
Concept reiterated by Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Gruppo maire Tecnimont: "Applying the expertise of technologists and plant engineers to the new business of mechanical recycling offers interesting opportunities in a sector that has Need to industrialise The regeneration cycle of this type of materials. We once again confirm first mover as a developer in the field, from the supply of technology, to the realization of plants. "

Sweden relies on technology from Germany for plastic sorting

After a year and a half of construction, the largest Swedish plastic sorting plant in Motala, Östergötland Province, was officially put into operation at the end of May.

18.06.2019

The supplier is the German plant manufacturer Sutco Recycling Technology. The client of the million project is the well-known Swedish organisation Svensk Plastervinning – formerly Plastkretsen – which in Sweden is responsible for the recycling of plastic packaging waste from households.

Matthias Philipsson, CEO of Svensk Plastervinning and operator of the turnkey-supplied sorting plant, is very satisfied with the result of the German-Swedish cooperation. The aim is for all plastic packaging on the Swedish market to be recycled and become new plastic products. According to Philipsson, the new plant meets all the prerequisites for this.

The new plant, which has been equipped with 19 NIR machines from Tomra, among others, will operate in 3 shifts with an annual capacity of 115,000 tonnes – 20 tonnes per hour –, making it Europe's largest and most efficient plant for sorting Plastic.

Her skal dere få servert SPEKULASJON i tungvektsklassen mine venner.

Dow, SCG to make recycled, sustainable products

FRANK ESPOSITO

In a far-reaching program, plastics and chemicals giant Dow Inc. will work with industrial firm SCG of Thailand on a range of sustainable products.

Products made by the partnership will include recycled resin, recycled products made from plastic waste, petrochemical feedstocks from plastic waste and renewable plastic resins. The agreement was signed Sept. 6 in Bangkok.

According to officials, the Dow/SCG partnership is based on "the shared vision to close the loop of plastics waste management for the reduction of plastic leakage to the environment." It's designed to add value to plastic waste and to prevent them from ending up in the environment, as well as to create a circular economy for plastic in Thailand.

"Our industry and society as a whole must do a better job of capturing and reusing plastic by scaling investments in collection, waste management, recycling technologies and new end markets," Dow CEO Jim Fitterling said in a news release. "Working together with companies like SCG, we can create a world where no plastic ends up in the environment."

SCG President and CEO Roongrote Rangsiyopash added that working with Midland, Mich.-based Dow "not only represents our joint commitment in taking action to solve problems through technology and to making real changes, but also provides us with new business opportunity, enhancing sustainability and bringing about practical solutions for recycling and upcycling of plastic waste in Thailand."

The partnership is aligned with the Thai government's ambition to increase the recycling rate of plastic waste in the country by 2027. Plastic waste in the environment is considered a critical environmental issue where Dow and SCG have innovated in the past. The firms worked together to use materials derived from transformed plastic waste in polymer-modified asphalt roads.

The Dow/SCG effort will add value to low-value or no-value plastic waste, such as multilayer plastics packaging and contaminated plastic waste, officials added.

Dow and SCG are founding members of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, a not-for-profit organization which has pledged $1.5 billion to address the plastic waste issue.

Dow is a major producer of polyethylene resin as well as other specialty plastics and chemicals. The firm employs 37,000 worldwide and had sales of $50 billion in 2018.

Bangkok-based SCG, formerly known as Siam Cement Group, employs 54,000 and has annual sales of around $14 billion. Plastic products made by SCG include PE, PVC and polypropylene resins. The firm's other main business units are cement and packaging.
