FIDO Alliance talks 2019 achievements and biometrics adoption in new report
FIDO Authentication with biometrics or physical tokens for strong, seamless web logins is ready to be deployed on billions of consumer devices around the world, FIDO Alliance says in its 2019 report released last week.

In 2019, FIDO partnered with platforms and web browsers to support FIDO Authentication, which allows websites to use FIDO-based logins through an API on consumer devices.

Some of the organization’s notable achievements for 2019 include the Web Authentication (WebAuthn) specification being accepted as an official web standard, making the option to log in to web services and apps with biometrics, mobile devices, or FIDO security keys an official W3C web standard. Other top highlights of 2019 include generally available FIDO2 browser support for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox , Apple Safari and Opera, FIDO2 certification for Windows Hello which allows Windows 10 users to access their devices through Windows Hello biometrics or PINs, and FIDO2 certification for Google’s Android 7.0+ platform.

“We know that realizing the FIDO Alliance’s mission to move the world beyond the password ‘shared secret’ model of authentication requires making FIDO a ubiquitous feature across all of the devices, operating systems and browsers we use every day. Given the platform enablement progress of this year, we are well on our way to that ubiquity,” said Andrew Shikiar, executive director and chief marketing officer of the FIDO Alliance. “Never before have service providers and developers had the ability to enable convenient, cryptographically secure authentication to a user base this broad. Service providers are now taking advantage of these new capabilities on a global scale.”

A growing number of service providers rolled out in 2019 FIDO Authentication across mobile and web. Some noteworthy achievements include FIDO passwordless authentication for Intuit mobile apps, which allegedly reduced sign-in time by 78 percent when compared with SMS-based multi-factor authentication and registered a 99.9 percent authentication success rate , FIDO paswordless sign-in for Microsoft’s Azure Active Directory, NTT DOCOMO introduced ‘d Account’ passwordless authentication which lets users use FIDO biometric authentication instead of password logins, the General Services Administration (GSA) introduced FIDO authentication for login.gov, the National Health Service in the United Kingdom released two pieces of open source code that developers can use to add biometric security for app login, such as facial or fingerprint recognition, Google rolled out biometric authentication for some services on Android devices leveraging FIDO2 standards, FIDO CTAP, and WebAuthn, and Line Pay was the first mobile payment app to support FIDO2.

In June, FIDO Alliance announced new standards and certification initiatives to automate secure IoT device onboarding without passwords, and to strengthen identity verification and binding. The organization also formed two new working groups the Identity Verification and Binding Working Group (IDWG) and the IoT Technical Working Group (IoT TWG) responsible with guidelines and certification criteria.

FIDO Alliance added new members in 2019 including AdNovum Informatik AG, FIME SAS, the government of Thailand, IBM, IDNow, Imagination Technologies, Intuit, Jumio Corporation, the Mitre Corporation, Phoenix Technologies, Ping Identity, and Secure Identity.

In 2020, the FIDO Alliance plans to introduce a new conference called Authenticate, which will take place in June in Seattle.

SJEKK!!!

https://findbiometrics.com/precise-tech-powers-ewbms-fido2-certified-usb-key/
eWBM recently made headlines when the company’s Goldengate 500 Security Key became the first USB device to achieve FIDO2 Level 2 Authenticator Security Certification. Now Precise Biometrics has given us a look beneath the surface, announcing that eWBM licensed the Precise BioMatch Embedded fingerprint algorithm for the Goldengate 500.

According to Precise, the deal will not have a significant financial impact for the company, although it does mean that Precise tech is powering the FIDO Alliance’s first L2-certified device. That’s obviously a major milestone for Precise and eWBM, even if it doesn’t make much of an impact during Precise’s upcoming Annual General Meeting in May.

The Goldengate 500 offers password-free authentication, and is designed to guard against phishing, account takeovers, and other malware attacks. Precise’s fingerprint algorithm is an essential piece of the puzzle that powers the device’s biometric capabilities.

Much of Precise’s business is focused on the biometric cards market, but the company hopes to expand its multi-modal portfolio in the coming years, and has already provided a software solution for a new Hyundai car. For its part, eWBM has been a staunch supporter of FIDO2 as a post-password initiative, and recently joined the Board of Directors of the FIDO Alliance.

Patentet täcker i princip in hela identifieringsprocessen

Vivo to Be First Smartphone Maker With Synaptics‘ In-Display Fingerprint Sensor: Report
Written by Robert Smith × December 6, 2019
Just the mass production of its in-display fingerprint sensor with one of the “top-five” smartphone vendors, it has now been revealed that Vivo is working with the company to build the advanced experience on a mass level. Vivo had to showcase an under-display fingerprint sensor meant for its future smartphones.

Analyst Patrick Moorhead got a chance to experience a pre-production Vivo smartphone equipped with a Synaptics‘ in-display fingerprint sensor called Clear ID. In a Forbes report, Moorhead the experience was “fast and simple” – the technology unlocked the screen after touching a fingerprint image illuminated at the bottom of the display. Synaptics claims that its in-house technology is as faster alternative biometrics such as 3D facial recognition like Apple‘s Face ID and is highly secured.

Moorhead states that enabling in-display fingerprint sensors on smartphones so far has been a manufacturability issue. But Synaptics highlights that as many as 70 million units of in-display sensors will be out on the market in 2018, as the analyst mentioned. The ultimate advantage of opting for in-display sensors would be the let manufacturers bring more full-screen smartphones in the coming future, complete with the ease of a front-facing fingerprint sensor. Manufacturers like Apple are instead going with fingerprint sensor, while others like Samsung and OnePlus have moved it to the back of the smartphone – not the most convenient location.

Vivo is indeed a “top five” smartphone OEM, at least, , the company comes after Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi, in terms of shipment results in the third quarter of 2017. However, the company has some historical records of bringing new innovations. The sister concern of Vivo – Oppo, which is owned by BBK Electronics – previously disrupted the smartphone market with its . OnePlus, which is also run by the same owner, is said to have customised Oppo‘s technology and brought Dash Charge that is than what on the LG V30, iPhone X, and Google Pixel 2.

At MWC Shanghai 2017 in June, Qualcomm also announced its native under-display fingerprint sensor that . It is unclear whether Vivo will continue its partnership with the San Diego, California-based chipmaker as Synaptics‘ technology is offering a similar and seemingly faster solution. However, other smartphone vendors would pick the Qualcomm offering as well to start providing in-display fingerprint scanning experiences on their future devices.

The update comes in the format of a Q&A with the company’s Customer Program Manager, Matthew Bai, posted on Precise Biometrics’ blog. Bai has been leading the organization of Precise Biometrics’ Shanghai office over the past several months, and asserts in the post that from his position in proximity to the China market, he is “particularly excited about the new developments and growing trend towards optical sensors”, a trend that was also highlighted in Precise Biometrics’ Annual Report earlier this year.

Precise Biometrics Software Featured in Forthcoming Hyundai Car
Precise Biometrics is playing an important role in one of the more high-profile examples of biometric innovation in the automotive industry. The company has revealed that its fingerprint algorithm software is going to be used in a forthcoming Hyundai car.

Precise Biometrics didn’t specify which car models would use its technology in announcing the project, but presumably it’s referring to one of the forthcoming 2019 Santa Fe models; Hyundai revealed toward the end of last year that it was planning to incorporate fingerprint recognition technology into the door lock and ignition of one of these models, and in announcing its involvement Precise Biometrics indicated that its technology would be used in a system that will “allow drivers to unlock the door and start the engine using their fingerprint.”

Precise Biometrics also indicated that it’s working with Dreamtech, a Korean engineering firm that develops module components for a range of products including cars, mobile phones, and home appliances. The latter has integrated the Precise BioMatch Embedded algorithm software solution into a fingerprint sensor module developed for Hyundai. It isn’t yet clear if a sensor hardware maker is also involved.

In any case, the integration is a positive sign for Precise Biometrics as it continues its efforts to expand its business activities beyond a volatile mobile sector. It’s also a further indication of the increasing convergence of biometric and automotive technologies as a growing number of vehicle and automotive components makers seek a competitive edge with biometric recognition and authentication systems.

https://www.biometricupdate.com/201912/biometric-data-security-and-logical-access-control-lead-weeks-most-read-digital-identity-news

Securing data with biometrics and the security of biometric data itself are the main themes for the week in digital identity, with hackers beginning to target biometric data and a lack of standards and regulation leading to uneven practices around the world. The concerns do not seem to be hindering continued growth in digital ID, payments, and airport adoption.

Hackers are targeting selfies and ID document photos with phishing campaigns in order to defeat increasingly robust biometric onboarding security processes, according to a report from Kaspersky. The success rate of these data theft attempts is not clear, nor is whether they have been leveraged to defeat KYC checks and open fraudulent accounts.

Morocco’s selection of Idemia to provide the new biometric e-ID cards for its national program was also among the top digital ID stories of the week. The cards will be used for online authentication for both government and commercial services.

Law enforcement agencies in Nigeria and Kenya are deploying biometrics to solve different problems; tracking sex offenders in the former case, reducing corruption in the latter, as our coverage of biometrics and digital ID in Africa shows increasing use of biometrics on the continent. Some deployments are creating attractive targets for hackers, however, Kaspersky warns.

Kaspersky is evidently keen to talk about the risk of biometric data compromise, as another of our top stories of the week presents a fake biometric wearable the cybersecurity company has developed in collaboration with a jewelry designer. The ring is not meant to be commercialized, however, but rather to highlight the need for secure-by-design systems such as its KasperskyOS, which it says will be immune to leaks and attacks.

The need for unique patient identifiers in challenging rural environments for critical healthcare services such as HIV treatment is well established, but inaccuracies continue to hold back programs. A new study of iris recognition for patient ID in Kenya indicates, albeit at a small scale, the improvements in data accuracy possible with biometric systems, providing reason for optimism.

The unfortunate apparent waste of $13 million spent on biometric kits for voter registration in Yemen earlier in the decade is one reason to be wary of advanced technology in development programs, but as Devex reports, concerns about data security and a lack of regulation are holding some NGOs back, even as others expand their use of the tech.

As in healthcare and other situations involving vulnerable populations, data security is particularly important when it comes to children, which is why CITeR takes such stringent methods to ensure the privacy of participants in its academic research to provide longitudinal data on the effectiveness of biometrics for young people, as the center’s Director Stephanie Schuckers explains in an interview.

Further on the theme of data security, hackers could take over smart TVs to commit mischief or cyberstalk people in their homes, the Oregon FBI is warning. The agency applies some consumer cybersecurity best-practices to the scenario to provide advice that should probably be heeded by many more people.

Used improperly, biometric do more to provide a false sense of security than actually protect data, Nalin Asanka Gamagedara Arachchilage, a senior research fellow at La Trobe University at the University of New South Wales, argues in a Nextgov editorial that is the case with smartphone biometrics, as used by most consumers. Smartphone biometrics are an opportunity to implement stronger passwords for higher-security applications, but many people are even aware that is an option, according to survey data.

NEC New Zealand Head of Public Safety Solutions Lynne Jeffery sets out the top five reasons for businesses to authenticate payments with biometrics in a widely-read Biometric Update guest post, and suggests that by 2020, facial recognition could be providing contactless authentication for credit card payments.

More than half of people in the UK would shift from passwords to biometric verification for online accounts, according to an Equifax survey, and representatives from the company and the FIDO Alliance pitched CNN on the need to go passwordless to preserve cybersecurity from the World Economic Forum Cybersecurity Summit.

The biometrics data collection and usage practices of 50 countries around the world are ranked by Comparitech, which finds China last, and the U.S. in unenviable company. In large part those low ranking are due to the DNA program China is running, and the use of facial recognition by DHS, respectively, and each seems to be expanding.

Goode Intelligence has highlighted its ten most influential identity organizations, based on the promotion of good ID ideals (go ahead and guess one right now). Watch out for our exclusive interview with Women in Identity Executive Director Emma Lindley, whose new group made the cut, next week.

The wave of biometric deployments in airports around the world also rolls on, with boarding gates in China expected to double over the next three years, and new announcements at Chicago, London, and Los Angeles airports, as well as in Singapore and Australia.

RealNetworks Vice President and General Manager of Computer Vision Dan Grimm spoke to Biometric Update about how SAFR is scaling up to provide casinos and crowded public spaces with newly-possible facial recognition and analytic capabilities, as well as how to ensure deployments of the technology are responsible.

The company’s Senior Director of Product Management Mike Vance says in a question-and-answer with Spaces4Learning basic access control concerns, rather than the high-profile incidents SAFR was mainly originally thought of for, are the main interest in the technology for primary schools.

Voice biometrics are shifting consumer interactions to the conversational engagement depicted in Star Trek, and acting as one layer in the authentication process that will enable real-time financial transactions, Enacomm CEO Michael Boukadakis writes in a guest post.

Chinese regulators have rolled out a ban on deepfakes, or fake news created with artificial intelligence, as part of a new set of rules governing video and audio content online, Thomson Reuters Foundation reports. The new Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) rules provide another example of the country taking a leadership position on AI.

A different kind of leadership in AI is shown by Microsoft, which is applying advanced technology including facial recognition to track the monkey population in India, so that it can help control a nuisance which causes not only property damage and headaches for many people, but also health and safety risks for people and monkeys alike, according to a company blog post.

Amazon Rekognition is among the AI and machine learning technologies that will be used to improve the health and safety of football players through a partnership between AWS and the NFL. The partners will develop a “Digital Athlete” platform to model injury scenarios and will work to improve the detection of concussions and other injuries.

Jumio CTO and Chief Data Scientist Labhesh Patel explains in an interview with IDG Connect why AI is both a tremendous opportunity for Jumio, but “also one of the most overhyped technologies out there.”

As always, please let us know in the comments below or through social media if there is a blog post, news item, or perspective you would like to share with the biometrics and digital identity communities.

IDEMIA to supply Morocco's eIDs
05/12/19
IDEMIA has signed a strategic contract with Morocco’s Direction Générale de la Sûreté Nationale (National Security Government Department - “DGSN”) to supply the country’s latest national electronic ID cards and introduce a secured digital identity online services platform.

Backed by DGSN’s new digital identity national system, Moroccans will be able to access online services in a secured environment. IDEMIA will provide DGSN its digital authentication platform with a view to facilitating online correspondence between Moroccans and government agencies or private service providers, who seek to benefit from the new national ID card’s digital features.

The new biometric ID card will accelerate rollout of Morocco’s online services and will ramp up development of the digital economy. The card will deliver rock-solid online authentication and transaction security for all Moroccans. As a result, all online services will be able to tap into DGSN’s new digital identity national system while providing citizens user-friendly, fast and secure access that safeguards the privacy of their personal data on their electronic ID cards.

IDEMIA’s worldwide expertise helps bring about major change currently underway to introduce digital identities. IDEMIA’s solutions secure identity data in all steps involved from design and use of online and offline documents, based on extremely strict personalization and production security procedures.
IDEMIA currently produces highly secure identity documents, including national ID cards, passports, vehicle registration documents, driving licenses and healthcare cards, in countless countries around the world apart from Morocco such as the US, Estonia and the Netherlands. It also supplies comprehensive digital identity management systems to governments and public and private sector organizations.
Philippe Barreau, Executive Vice President for Public Security & Identity activities at IDEMIA, said: “Digital is a game changer for the world and what people demand. From now on, everything’s got to be faster, easier and most of all, work anywhere on a mobile device in a secured environment. The public at large have already taken on board this new way of doing things and Morocco’s government services are following this path. https://www.biometricupdate.com/201908/precise-biometrics-announces-youniq-facial-recognition-solution-for-building-security
Precise Biometrics has integrated the facial recognition capabilities of its YOUNiQ digital identity offering with door access systems to provide secure biometric physical access control to offices and restricted facilities, according to a company announcement.

In several pilot projects this year, Precise YOUNiQ was developed and tested with select partners, ahead of its commercial rollout in 2020. The software makes onboarding and access convenient and secure, and enables any organization to simplify its access solution, Precise says.

“We increasingly use services that require registration and authentication of people’s digital identity, but which are often complicated and not as secure as we think. Access to offices and buildings has long been dominated by passcodes, access cards, tags and keys; outdated entry systems in today’s digitized society. Through the launch of Precise YOUNiQ for facility access, we open the door to a more convenient, secure and contemporary everyday life,” says Precise’ CEO Stefan K. Persson.

Precise YOUNiQ is currently being tested for facility access in ongoing pilots with partners in the real estate, education, and health care sectors.

“The Center for Identification Technology Research (CITeR) at Clarkson University has for many years conducted research and development within biometric recognition,” states Dr. Stephanie Schuckers, Director of CITeR. “Therefore, I’m thrilled to see the students utilize Precise YOUNiQ in our engineering labs, as it allows them to take part in novel technology that can inspire them to develop solutions of the next-generation.”

YOUNiQ was announced as Precise’ new digital identity product at the beginning of this year as part of the company’s strategy of moving its technology closer to end customers, and a partnership with Covr Security to develop products leveraging YOUNiQ for secure online verification was announced in June.

“The combination of passive facial recognition and passive liveness detection is a first of its kind within identification software for access control systems, paving the way for a seamless and more secure user experience,” explained Precise Biometrics CTO Tom Søberg. “We already have several ongoing pilot projects with partners in various sectors and are working hard with preparations for the commercialization.”

https://www.biometricupdate.com/201909/egis-continues-to-deploy-precise-biometrics-fingerprint-software
Egis Technology continues to integrate Precise Biometrics‘ Precise BioMatch Mobile fingerprint software. The Swedish biometrics firm revealed today that its software for fingerprint recognition in mobile devices has been deployed by Egis in another series of smartphones.

This integration, plus the one announced in August, together are expected to generate approximately US$1.5M in revenue.

“We are pleased to receive this additional integration which is a recognition of the quality of our leading fingerprint software and that our strategic direction of increasing our presence in Asia is showing results,” says Precise Biometrics CEO Stefan K. Persson. “We continue to work hard to offer world leading biometric solutions and improve the quality of our products, whether it’s software for mobile devices and smart cards or solutions for verification of digital identity.”

Precise Biometrics recently integrated the facial recognition capabilities of its YOUNiQ digital identity offering with door access systems to provide secure biometric physical access control to offices and restricted facilities.

https://findbiometrics.com/precise-biometrics-covr-youniq-506042/
Covr Security offers a 2FA solution based on a mobile app, allowing a given user to authenticate on their mobile device via a six-digit passcode. The plan is to leverage this solution with YOUNiQ, an authentication solution that Precise Biometrics says will support multiple biometric modalities including fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, and behavioral biometrics, as well as geodata.

In announcing its collaboration with Covr, Precise Biometrics said it plans to carry out pilots during the second half of this year, and to “then enter into a commercial phase.” Precise Biometrics also noted that Covr’s solution is aimed at sectors including financial services, gambling, retail, and healthcare.

Biometrics News - Future iPhone Could Have In-Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner
There may be a version of next year’s iPhone that will come equipped with an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, according to a recent report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News.

The report suggests that Apple representatives have arranged to meet with GIS, a Taiwanese manufacturer, to discuss the development of a future iPhone with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The scanner would be Qualcomm’s ultrasonic sensor, similar to the one currently found in Samsung’s Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10 smartphones, though there are indications that the version Apple will use may be a more advanced model capable of covering almost the entirety of the display, allowing for a larger scannable area.

Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners use high frequency sounds to generate a 3D impression of a fingerprint, while optical scanners rely on light from the smartphone’s display to produce a 2D image.

Rumours of Apple re-introducing Touch ID to work alongside Face ID to provide a multimodal form of biometric authentication and security have persisted for many months now — Apple even filed a patent relating to the tech this past October — and this latest report fits right into that narrative.

Touch ID made its debut in 2013’s iPhone 5s and was last seen in the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, both released in 2017. It has since been replaced by the face scanning Face ID technology, which can be found in the latest iPhones today.

A number of smartphone manufacturers have also been exploring in-display technology over the past several months. Xiaomi filed a patent for an under-display camera module a few weeks ago, while Vivo actually launched the Vivo S5 smartphone last month with an under-display fingerprint scanner of its own.

“Fingerprint Cards hardware and Precise Biometrics software have frequently been combined to offer biometric authentication, most often in mobile devices.”
In its first smart card integration, Fingerprint Cards’ T-Shape biometric sensor module is being supported by Precise Biometrics software.FPC's T-Shape Module Supported by Precise Biometrics Software in CardLab Project In a statement, the latter company has revealed that its Precise BioMatch Embedded software is being used in the newly announced project.

The project revolves around CardLab, a Danish smart cards specialist that has been approved for European Union funding to develop a biometric smart card solution for “E-banking, E-commerce, E-government, payment, access and ID card solutions,” according to an earlier statement from that company. To that end, CardLab has become the first customer of FPC’s T-Shape module, which uses ultra-thin FPC1300 fingerprint sensor technology to enable smart card applications.

Fingerprint Cards hardware and Precise Biometrics software have frequently been combined to offer biometric authentication, most often in mobile devices. Now, Precise Biometrics’ support of the T-Shape module’s first deployment suggests that a whole new line of strategic collaboration may be opening up for the companies – especially given the growing excitement over biometric smart cards. Major names like Mastercard have been experimenting with the biometric payment card concept, and Zwipe has just announced its first shipment of biometric smart cards – also featuring FPC technology.

Biometric payment cards with Precise, NXP, FPC tech achieves Mastercard security certificate
A biometric smart card module featuring a secure processing module from NXP Semiconductors and Precise BioMatch Card algorithm from Precise Biometrics is the first dual-interface card to receive Mastercard CAST certificate for meeting all Mastercard security requirements, according to a series of company announcements. The module also includes the FPC T-Shape sensor FPC1321 and its driver from Fingerprint Cards, and the BioLAM fully integrated inlay solution from LINXENS.

Mastercard’s CAST (Compliance Assessment and Security Testing) certificate is valid for three years, and confirms an appropriate level of security for contactless payments without spending caps, with fingerprint on card technology keeping personal data safe. NXP says the certificate was achieved by designing a fully integrated, one-module solution which fulfills all Mastercard security requirements.

The solution divides tasks between a specially EMVCo and Common Criteria-certified secure elements and a low-power microcontroller. The secure processing unit within the secure element receives extraction data from the microcontroller, and performs the match, returning a simple “yes” or “no” answer. The Secure Processing Module also provides high performance and a convenient customer experience, according to NXP. The solution can be easily integrated into a card body with typical manufacturing processes like hot lamination.

“This is a historic milestone for biometric payment cards, and a significant step on the road to enable secure and convenient payments for consumers around the world,” says Fingerprint Cards SVP Business Line Smartcards Thomas Rex. “We are pleased to collaborate with NXP and to support them with our superior biometric solution as we approach the next step for wider commercial roll-out of biometric payment cards.”

Precise calls the certificate an important step in the module’s release, and reiterates previous expectations for modest initial volumes of biometric smart cards to be delivered by the end of the year.

Many trials of fingerprint payment cards are now being carried out, supported by several collaborations, including a recently announced partnership between Fingerprint Cards and G+D.

Goode Intelligence has forecasted that 579 million biometric payment cards will be used globally by 2023.

https://www.biometricupdate.com/201912/biometric-authentication-for-mobile-payments-to-skyrocket-10x-to-2-5t-by-2024

Biometric authentication will be used in $2.5 trillion in mobile payments by 2024, an increase of nearly 1,000 percent from $228 billion in 2019, driven by the rise of WebAuthn standards adoption, according to a new report from Juniper Research.

The Mobile Payment Authentication & Data Security: Encryption, Tokenisation, Biometrics 2019-2024 report suggests that 90 percent of smartphones will have dedicated biometric hardware by 2024, but less than 30 percent of them to be used to authenticate contactless payments, due to the use of contactless cards.

The report covers tokenization for contactless and remote payments, fingerprint, facial, iris, and voice biometric modalities, considers eight key regions and a dozen important country markets. Hardware and software-based facial recognition are gaining ground on fingerprint authentication for payments, and Juniper believes smartphone biometrics based on cloud software will become as popular as those based on hardware within the next five years.

Several different payment standards will also drive mobile biometrics use, including 3D Secure 2.0, which requires two-factor authentication.

“Biometrics has traditionally been used for in-person contactless payments,” remarks research author James Moar. “However, with an increase in the need for smooth authentication on all mCommerce channels, we anticipate over 60 percent of biometrically-verified payments will be made remotely by 2024.”
Because iOS does not support WebAuthn, the report forecasts mobile payments with biometrics on non-iOS devices are expected to increase at double the rate of iOS device biometric payments.

Earlier this year Goode Intelligence forecast mobile biometric payments to reach $1.67 trillion by 2023, and eBay is an example of a retailer very recently increasing biometric support, though for sign-in.

PRECISE: SPÅR YTTERLIGARE INTEGRERING HOS EGIS 4 KV

08:22

https://classic.nordnet.no/mux/web/analys/nyheter/visaNyhet.html?itemid=710326001&sourcecode=direkt

More importantly for Microsoft, the ability to sell licenses again will be key for the company’s work with Huawei on Azure. Microsoft and Huawei both operate a hybrid cloud solution for Microsoft’s Azure stack, using Microsoft-certified Huawei servers. Huawei’s work on Azure and its laptops could still be complicated by any bans affecting components from US-based companies like Intel.

Precise to collaborate with Infinity Optics Solutions
published on November 12, 2019
Precise has signed a collaboration agreement with the leading biometric cryptography company Infinity Optics (“IO”), to develop secure identification software for fingerprint recognition based on so called true biometric hash technology. The technology enables identification without the need to store user’s reference image, minimizing the risks of identity fraud and data breaches.

“Biometrics and cryptography have for a long time been operating in separate fields. This, despite both being components that perform complementary functions used in secure identification. It is very exciting that we have initiated a collaboration with Infinity Optics, our goal is to be the first provider that combine the two fields successfully for fingerprint recognition,” says Precise CEO Stefan K. Persson.

The collaboration agreement provides Precise with exclusive access to Infinity Optics QuantumCrypt™ Platform. The collaboration will initially focus on adapting IO’s hash technology to work with Precises’ fingerprint technology and to develop a product for fingerprint recognition. The companies expect to conduct numerous pilot projects within a few months before entering the commercialization phase of the product.

The new technology being developed will – contrary to today’s established method that uses user’s biometric data to generate a template of the physical biometric, i.e. fingerprint, face, iris – generate a stable biometric code from a biometric image for hashing, where no template is ever stored. The process will give the technology several advantages. It enables convenient and secure identification of the user without storing the biometric template and allows any enrollment to be easily revoked if data is compromised. Critically, it also provides a method to enhance the security of cloud-based identification.

“This is a very strong testament from a global biometric player and we are excited to bring our combined capabilities to one of the more popular biometric modalities in the market. We have at the beginning of this year created a vision to enable biometrics to do more in the Digital Identity space. I am pleased that Precise and IO share this vision “, says IO’s CEO Alfred Chan.

Apple spreads $200 million to rescue iPhone screen supplier JDI
(2019-10-08)
http://www.shoujibao.cn/news/show-htm-itemid-34957.html

On October 8th, according to JDI CEO Minoru Kikuoka said on Monday that aid funds will be in place by the end of October. Japan Display CEO Minoru Kikuoka told the media, "We are close to getting 50 billion yen (about 470 million US dollars), and I believe we can reach this deal this month." Japan Display said that a big customer intends to invest 200 million US dollars, which is twice the company"s previous plan. The source said that this major customer is Apple. According to reports, Hong Kong Oasis Management Company will invest another 1.5 to 180 million US dollars. The new bailout funds are believed to require the remaining $0.9 billion to $120 million from another Japan Display supplier and other unspecified sources.

Japan Display is a long-term supplier to Apple and currently produces LCD screens for use in the iPhone 11. It has not yet produced OLED displays for use in the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and has not yet planned to migrate to new technologies. Japan Display does not intend to invest in OLED capital, which will require the renovation of an idle LCD factory, which will cost at least $1.9 billion.

However, Japan Display said LCD orders increased more than expected. These substantially increased orders are considered to be from Apple, as outside reports, Apple is increasing its iPhone 11 orders.

The first biometric fingerprint credit card issued by a UK bank begins its three-month national trial today. NatWest is piloting cutting-edge, biometric fingerprint technology with 150 customers, in partnership with Mastercard and Gemalto, a Thales Company.

The bank has previously piloted biometric debit cards, but this will be the first-time credit cards have been issued. The biometric credit cards will offer contactless payments using fingerprint verification for transactions up to £100, an increase on the current £30 limit.

As well as retaining contactless functionality, the fully integrated card can be used as normal in ATMs and for online shopping. Additionally, there are no hardware changes needed to accept biometric cards, so cardholders can use them at existing contactless and Chip and PIN terminals. The card is powered through the card terminal and when a customer presents a card, a green light on the card indicates that the fingerprint has been matched successfully.

Enrolment is simple and takes as little as five minutes. A customer can register in the comfort of their home using a plastic sleeve. Once a digital fingerprint is locked onto a card, it cannot be changed. The user’s biometric data never leaves the card, is never shared with the merchant or bank, and no fingerprints are stored in a cloud. This ensures that biometric data cannot be accessed or used outside the card.

Georgina Bulkeley, Director of Innovation, NatWest said: “After the successful pilot of our biometric debit card we are looking to test the technology further with credit cards. This is the biggest development in card technology in recent years and not having to enter a PIN not only increases security but makes it easier for our customers when paying for goods or services.”

NatWest is working closely with Mastercard and digital security company Gemalto to bring the service to customers in the UK.

Bob Reany, Executive Vice president, Identity Solutions, Mastercard added: “Feeling confident that your information is protected is paramount. We, along with our partners, are building biometric cards that recognize an individual rather than a password or PIN. Biometrics are more secure, more trusted and better suited to a world that requires more frequent authentication.”

Howard Berg, Senior Vice president, UK Ireland and Switzerland of Gemalto, a Thales Company, said: “Biometric have a big role in the future of payments and we’re pleased that more NatWest customers will be the first to try out this simple, convenient and secure way to pay. Authenticating payments with a fingerprint isn’t just easy – it boosts security and opens the door to larger contactless payments. We’ll work very closely with NatWest as the trial progresses to address feedback from users and make sure they’re getting the best experience possible.”

Precise Biometrics & On Demand

https://www.apacbusinessheadlines.com/RSS/2019/05/10/unikeys-launches-the-pre-sale-of-the-ukey-card-a-biometric-card-for-crypto-assets/

Unikeys believes IDEMIA’s market-leading position in biometric augmented identity and its impressive production track record of more than 800 million payment and ID cards in 2018 via its partnerships with 1,800 international financial institutions, can bring forth unparalleled biometric data security and introduce an expansive range of new opportunities for Unikeys.

The UKey card has the exact dimensions of a standard credit card (ISO/IEC 7810), which makes it highly transportable and versatile, and perfect for on-the-go payments. It is compatible with Android phones and tablets via NFC; and supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash. ERC 20 tokens will be available in the near future. To ensure first-class security, the UKey card’s secure element is certified to the Common Criteria EAL6+ standard.

“When conceptualizing the UKey card, security and user experiences are our top priorities. We believe the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies will happen only if it’s made easy to transact and can be stored securely: that’s when ‘biometry’ came to mind. We are confident our game-changing sleek design, together with the most advanced biometric sensor, makes an all-round solution for end-users transacting with crypto-assets,” said Unikeys CEO and Co-founder Alexandre Tabbakh.

Months of R&D and tireless efforts put into improving the UKey card has finally come to fruition. The 3-month presale of the UKey card will commence from 10 May, 2019 on Unikeys’ website on the pre-sale page at a discounted price of USD 89.0 (original price will resume after 3 months); with worldwide delivery starting from early September. Precise Biometrics expands agreement for Precise BioLive with Crossmatch
Wednesday 10 January 2018 | 10:36 AM CET

Precise Biometrics has expanded its licensing agreement for Precise BioLive anti-spoof technology with Crossmatch.
Precise BioLive identifies fake fingerprints by analyzing fundamental image differences between a live fingerprint image, and one from a spoof. The software solution does not require any hardware, which minimizes the operational impact on sensor functionality. Precise BioLive is integrated in mobile or desktop fingerprint scanning devices through Precise Biometrics anti-spoof SDK.

The agreement enables Crossmatch to boost the security of its single fingerprint scanners through liveness detection. The previous license agreement with Crossmatch, which was transferred to Precise Biometrics as part of the acquisition of NexID Biometrics in February 2017, covered anti-spoof technology for 4-finger scanners.

Precise Biometrics is a fingerprint software provider. The company´s products can be used for ID, enterprise and bank cards as well as access to mobile solutions, computers and networks

Crossmatch is a global provider of biometric identity management and authentication solutions for customers in any market, including financial institutions, retail organizations, governments, law enforcement agencies and defense departments.

Precise Biometrics Has Finalized its Acquisition of NexID Biometrics
Posted on February 13, 2017 by Alex Perala
Precise Biometrics has finalized its acquisition of NexID Biometrics, the company has announced.

Precise Biometrics Has Finalized its Acquisition of NexID BiometricsThe deal was first unveiled in December, with Precise Biometrics announcing that it would acquire the liveness detection specialist for 32 million SEK. Only three full-time employees from NexID will join Precise Biometrics as a result of the acquisition, but much of its appeal to Precise Biometrics also lies in the company’s existing technological holdings, and in its connections to Clarkson University and the US Center for Identification Technology Research.

In a statement announcing the acquisition’s finalization as per government approvals, Precise Biometrics indicated that NexID experienced “a minor loss” in its 2016 year-end results, but nevertheless emphasized that the acquisition will allow the company “to expand its offering of fingerprint recognition software with industry leading liveness detection that provides competitive advantages” in “the booming market for fingerprint technology.”

The deal may reflect a larger M&A trend underway in the industry, with Precise Biometrics’ longtime hardware partner Fingerprint Cards having recently bought iris recognition specialist Delta ID, and with EyeVerify having been bought by Ant Financial, and also with Safran Identity & Security having been bought by Oberthur Technologies owner Advent International last year.

The modular design of Precise Biometrics’ BioMatch® solutions provides great flexibility for biometric authentication in any type product with small sensor and limited platform, thus providing the user with high accuracy, security and convenience.

Operates on small sensors and constrained environments
Our proven algorithms enable platforms with limited processing power and memory, such as microcontrollers and secure elements, to be included in a complete and effective systems for biometric authentication. The flexible fingerprint recognition software solutions are uniquely developed for small fingerprint sensors, implemented in ANSI C and works independent of sensor technology, operating system or platform.

The ANSI C implementation offers an excellent, stable and time efficient way to support a wide range of platforms, e.g., Android, Windows, Linux and various TEE implementations. As fingerprint sensors are becoming smaller and smaller, especially on mobile devices and smart cards, new and additional features are required. Precise Biometrics’ hybrid extractor, matcher and template format explore full use of these. In combination with standard minutia specified in standards like ISO, IEC 19794-2 and ANSI/INCITS 378, this offers very powerful functionality to the user. The algorithms also include sophisticated logic, using multiple image samples as a basis for feature template extraction.

PRECISE: ÅTGÄRDER SNABBARE ÄN PLAN, FULL SPAREFFEKT 2H 2019- VD
12 februari 2019 kl 10:08

Inom affärsområdet digital identitet väntas bolagets nya produkt Precise Youniq gå in i kommersiell fas under andra halvåret 2019.
