About 40 citizens from across the region showed up in the morning to express their disagreement. They fear that this will revive shale gas development in the medium term. "You are not going to make social acceptability, because there will not be. In recent weeks, Utica Resources has held various information activities and met with several citizens. According to its spokesman, Yvan Loubier, the city council supports the project and there is an interest in the population. "Until now, the people of Joly we met agreed and enthusiastic. The project

If it obtains all its permits, the company will begin drilling a 2,500-metre well on farmland this fall. Located near a former well of the Quebec Petroleum Initiative Corporation (SOQUIP), vertical drilling will extract conventional natural gas.

It's not shale gas, says Loubier. "We want to inform people. We want to be transparent and undo the arguments put forward by the opponents that there will be fracking. There won't be any." The new regulations, "one of the toughest in the world," prohibit hydraulic fracturing in the St. Lawrence Valley, he said.

Once the well is dug, some of the gas will be extracted and what remains will allow the company to create a natural reservoir that will be transferred to Intragaz. "It's like St. Flavien. It's a natural gas storage well," he said. There are also geothermal, biogas and CO2 capture projects.
