Kames Capital handles investments of £37.4 billion.

- Kames Capital believes that climate change and the impact of human activity have become priority issues for investors
- Among the names that the manager likes is Tomra, a company that manufactures packaging and vending sorting machines
-The other two values for which they bet are DiaSoriny, a company specialized in performing genetic tests of diseases, and PeptiDream

According to the latest special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the United Nations, climate change and the impact of human activity on the planet have become two priority issues for the majority of the population. The same opinion has Neil Goddin, co-manager of the Kames Global Sustainable Equity Fund, who has identified three values to invest in in response to these concerns.

The first of its options is Tomra, a firm specialized in reverse vending. “It is a company that manufactures packaging sorting machines and reverse vending. Its strong point is reverse vending solutions, a segment in which Tomra dominates more than 80% of the world market share. In countries where it is already implemented, recycling rates exceed 80% and can exceed 90%, even if the laws that set recycling targets are not yet in force, ”says Goddin.

In this sense, the manager considers that, now that the European Union has set mandatory recycling targets and given the strong social demand to end images of dead fish from plastic waste, recycling rates are a matter of great news Cleaning the beaches or the shoulders is not enough. Few people do it and much of the waste cannot be recycled because they are contaminated. The only option that has proven to work is the deposit, return and refund (SDDR) systems of packages such as the one that has been approved in Scotland and will soon be launched in the rest of the United Kingdom.

“We believe that the data shows that the only viable way to collect large-scale plastic bottles and glasses is through the use of reverse vending machines installed in stores and public buildings throughout the United Kingdom (and probably throughout the world), where the user simply deposits the container and receives the deposit he paid when buying the product. There is numerous evidence that this works even without reimbursement, ”explains the Kames manager. As indicated by the manager, some British supermarkets have already tested a system whereby customers receive points on their loyalty card when they use the recycling machines and the results have been very promising. "Tomra will benefit from the large-scale adoption of these machines in the coming years," says Goddin.
