Does anyone know what that will mean for REC?

But do they need Polysilicon?

Yes, this is what I was trying to find out. They use obviously so called thin film (made of poly-si also?) technology in their modules. This might even be bad news for REC as disruptive technology, not so sure anymore. That is prolly why the REC share was dropping like a stone today?

A good page on the topic:
https://news.energysage.com/thin-film-solar-panels-make-sense/

And a good comparison page: Thin Film vs. Crystalline Silicon PV Modules
https://www.civicsolar.com/support/installer/articles/thin-film-vs-crystalline-silicon-pv-modules

Looks like thin film tech is not so disruptive after all, it has been around as alternative for decades

Funny, now I see why that twisted AB was avoiding the topic today. He has probably sold all his REC shares already!

After a short look, it seems to be nothing more to this than the increase of production capacity for their current portfolio.

First Solar makes CdTe ( Cadmium Telluride) based modules, which yields higher efficiency but the toxicity of Cadmium must be taken into account.

@michael

???

Dramaqueen? You are contradicting yourself in every sentence. Search for info first, then use logic.

FirstSolar does not compete with REC. REC is not affected by this news. They have a part of the american market and is growing organically with market growth. No negative net effect can then be observed on polysilicon-based marketshare. Polysilicon has 90 % marketshare because it is a superior technology compared to CdTe. It has not increased efficiency compared to costs.

First Solar gjør det bra i USA.
