CEO Stefan Ranstrand hintet mer enn noen gang i retning Kina under Q3 2019 21.oktober.

The development path of the Torang Group (TOMRA), hereinafter referred to as "Taurang", is typical of the Norwegian circular economy. As early as the 1970s, Tao Lang developed a waste recovery and sorting system. Last year, Tolan's automatic bottle return machine business collected 40 billion beverage bottles worldwide, directly reducing crude oil extraction by 1.1 billion liters, equivalent to a reduction of 3 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

In 2010, Tao Lang set up a branch in Xiamen, the pace of China's economic development to "the bluer mountains more greener water more clear" pace of transformation, its business in China has developed rapidly. Recently, xiamen municipal government and Tao Lang to carry out in-depth cooperation, the two sides will strive to jointly build Xiamen into China's circular economy demonstration base.

Om Xiamen, Wikipedia:

Xiamen (UK: /ʃ(j)ɑːˈmɛn/ sh(y)ah-MEN, US: /-ˈmʌn/ -MUN; 厦门, 厦門, 廈門), alternately known as Amoy (/əˈmɔɪ/,[4] from Hokkien pronunciation [e˨˩ mŋ̍˨]), is a sub-provincial city in southeastern Fujian province, People's Republic of China, beside the Taiwan Strait. It is divided into six districts: Huli, Siming, Jimei, Tong'an, Haicang, and Xiang'an. Altogether, these cover an area of 1,699.39 square kilometers (656.14 sq mi) with a population of 3,531,347 as of 2010. The urbanized area of the city has spread from its original island to include parts of all six of its districts, with a total population of 1,861,289. This area connects to Quanzhou in the north and Zhangzhou in the west, making up a metropolis of more than five million people. The Kinmen Islands (Quemoy) administered by the Republic of China lie less than 6 kilometers (4 mi) away.

China Focus: Beijing to implement city-wide mandatory household garbage sorting

Source: Xinhua| 2019-11-27 21:01:44|Editor: mingmei

BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Beijing will enforce a city-wide mandatory household garbage sorting system starting in May in a move to strengthen urban governance and prevent pollution.

Units and individuals are required to sort garbage into four categories -- kitchen waste, recyclable waste, hazardous waste and other waste, according to a draft amendment to Beijing's household garbage management regulations.

Individuals who fail to sort garbage and decline to rectify their behavior can be fined 50 yuan (about 7 U.S. dollars) to 200 yuan. Those who are willing to participate in community services, including household garbage sorting, will be exempt from paying fines.

"We want to change people's habits through education and guidance rather than punishment alone," said Hao Zhilan with the urban construction and environmental protection committee of the Beijing municipal people's congress.

The new rule was passed Wednesday at a session of the Standing Committee of the 15th Beijing Municipal People's Congress after it solicited opinions from 12,000 lawmakers and over 240,000 residents in August.

In order to reduce the waste at the source, the new regulations encourage the idea of going paperless at work and abandoning the use of disposable cups in Party and government offices as well as public institutions.

Supermarkets, shopping malls and trade markets are not allowed to use super-thin or free plastic bags. Restaurants, food delivery platforms and hotels shall stop offering disposable items unless customers ask.

Businesses who disobey the rules will face fines ranging from 5,000 yuan to 10,000 yuan. For frequent violators, the fine will be raised up to 50,000 yuan, according to the regulations.

Home to over 21 million residents, Beijing has long been troubled by mounting pressure of garbage disposal. The city collected 9.29 million tonnes of household waste in 2018, up 43.4 percent compared with that in 2012.

Last year, Beijing treated around 25,500 tonnes of waste each day, more than 86 percent of which was poured into incineration and landfill sites.

As one of the pioneers exploring trash sorting, Beijing published China's first domestic waste management regulations in 2011. The city has piloted compulsory trash sorting in thousands of schools, hospitals and government departments in recent years.

Song Guojun, researcher of environmental economics with the Renmin University of China, said the revised regulations can help Beijing strengthen its efforts in city governance and pollution prevention, boost public awareness and promote garbage sorting.

Beijing's part in tackling waste comes amid China's efforts to win the war on a growing mountain of garbage and establish a circular economy. Before Beijing, Shanghai began enforcing a mandatory garbage sorting system in July.

China plans to establish garbage sorting systems in 46 major cities by the end of 2020 and expand it to cover all cities at the prefecture-level and above by 2025.

"Trash sorting will revolutionize our way of life and modernize the urban governance system and capacity," Hao said. However, it will still take more work to develop the habit of sorting waste for residents.

An official survey showed that only 20 percent of the sampled can accurately discard kitchen waste in trash bins.

"The promotion of garbage sorting across Beijing is a long and tough war. It requires input from individuals, government and enterprises," Hao said, adding that the government will offer training for residents and make trash sorting a new fad.

Beijing’s New Solution for Millions of Tons of Trash

Following in Shanghai’s footsteps, the Chinese capital will become the second city in the country to implement a compulsory waste-sorting policy.

Starting this spring, Beijing will become the second Chinese city to impose a compulsory household waste-sorting policy, affecting some 21 million residents.

The capital’s top policymaking body unveiled a set of new rules Dec. 18 to take effect May 1, requiring all households to sort trash by method of disposal, such as incineration, landfill, and recycling. The move follows similar rules imposed since July 2019 in Shanghai, the eastern financial hub.

Both cities are responding to a nationwide push to address rising mountains of domestic waste produced by Chinese metropolises. Data from Beijing’s urban management commission showed that from January to October, the nation’s largest city by area produced more than 7.9 million tons of household trash, or 26,000 tons a day. The State Council, China’s Cabinet, set a target to apply compulsory garbage sorting in 46 major Chinese cities by the end of 2020.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), which oversees China’s waste management, domestic trash should be divided into four categories: recyclable materials, hazardous waste, “wet” or organic garbage, and “dry” waste. A complete chain of waste disposal should start with household sorting and run through collection and sorting by communities and businesses, and then on to final disposal.

Waste sorting is not a one-off campaign, but a long-term effort.
- Chang Jiwen, senior environment policy expert

Achieving these goals will be tough, as it will require an overhaul in the habits of millions of households and the operations of businesses and government departments. Most Chinese cities still rely on waste-pickers to rummage through bins and pluck out plastic bottles and cardboard to sell to recycling plants, leaving the remaining waste to be mixed and transported by sanitation departments for incineration or landfills.
