QEC - Clean tech GAS
I think that QEC have good case here with no use of chemicals or drinking water!!!
"""However, neither the federal government nor that of Quebec will take into account the environmental impacts of this production in their environmental assessment of the project.""""
A negative report
"Fracturing gas, a growing industry in Canada, poses serious risks to human health, says the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (ACME) in a new report released Wednesday. Health specialists are therefore calling for a moratorium on the expansion of the industry and a gradual halt to operations in progress.
"Studies have shown that fracking has many harmful health effects, but the most convincing data relate to adverse effects on pregnancy, birth outcomes and asthma," said Éric Notebaert, member of ACME, by presenting the report, entitled “A fractured transition”.
"The data indicating low birth weight is quite convincing, which is worrying being
as it is an indicator for several serious health conditions, including developmental disorders in children and an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease in adulthood. There are also reasons to believe that fracking increases the risk of leukemia in children whose mothers were exposed during their pregnancy, ”adds Dr. Notebaert.
Growing industry
The risks are all the more real, according to ACME, as hydraulic fracturing is increasingly used in Canada to exploit gas resources in the west of the country. According to Canadian gas production forecasts, shale gas and tight gas will continue to increase in the coming years. These two types of production, which require fracturing operations, should represent between 70% and 90% of production by 2035.
It is the growth of this production in the west of the country, mainly in British Columbia and Alberta, that justifies the construction of liquefaction plants and liquefied natural gas export terminals.
The natural gas that would be liquefied at the LNG Energie Saguenay plant would come from Alberta and would be exploited mainly by fracturing. However, neither the federal government nor that of Quebec will take into account the environmental impacts of this production in their environmental assessment of the project.
Climate risks
In addition to the impacts on human health, ACME recalls that fracturing operations can require up to 10 million liters of water for each borehole. And according to the conclusions of various studies published in recent years, included in the ACME report, shale gas could be significantly more polluting than conventional natural gas.
Fracturing produces large amounts of methane, a greenhouse gas that can be at least 30 times more powerful than CO2, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) .
These greenhouse gas emissions make ACME say that natural gas is not "a transitional fuel for a carbon neutral economy," according to its managing director, Robin Edger. “Natural gas is a fossil fuel that contributes to climate change. It jeopardizes our ability to meet our commitments under the Paris Agreement of 2015 and undermines our efforts to avoid the catastrophic effects associated with climate change, "he insists.
“In short, fracking poses a threat to our health in addition to contributing to climate change. The only responsible measure governments can take is to ban it altogether, "adds Dr. Edger."

Spennende tider...litt Donald, litt Greta.

"Poll indicates Quebecers prefer Western Canadian oil over foreign imported — December 11, 2019
A poll sanction by Montreal Economic Institute shows that Quebec politicians have it all wrong. Results show a vast majority of Quebecers prefer western crude oil over foreign imported crude.
Poll showed that an overwhelming majority of Quebecers (65%) prefer for the oil imported into Quebec to come from Western Canada, versus just 13% who prefer American oil and 5% who prefer oil from another country.
When questioned about the safest way to transport crude oil, 50% of the people interviewed stated that pipelines are the safest means of transport, followed by 11% who think the train is safest.
Chief Economist and Chief Operating Officer of Economic Institute Montreal stated, "Quebecers are much more open to hydrocarbons than we might think. They understand that we need oil and that the energy transition will not happen overnight."'

LNG Quebec: the inevitable hydraulic fracturing
ÉMILIE MORIN
The Daily
The promoter LNG Québec, which wishes to establish a natural gas liquefaction plant in Saguenay, will have no other choice, in the long term, than to obtain gas from hydraulic fracturing, according to projections for the future of natural gas in Canada."
"According to the Canadian Energy Board, conventional natural gas production will decline steadily until 2030, reaching approximately 100 million cubic meters per day. It will be gradually replaced by production from sealed tanks, which will reach 17.3 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf / d). Tight gas is considered an unconventional resource due to its extraction methods, such as hydraulic fracturing.
According to the Canadian Energy Board, conventional gases (in blue) will gradually fade to make way for unconventional gases requiring extraction by hydraulic fracturing, a controversial process.
COURTESY, CANADIAN ENERGY BOARD
Professor in the sociology department of the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) and specialist in economics and environmental sciences, Éric Pineault explains that the transition to gases from hydraulic fracturing has already started. “More and more, we will be dependent on the gas extracted by fracturing. We have pretty much exhausted conventional gas reserves. We’re going to run out of them in ten years. Shale gas will not necessarily be used, but the process remains the same. "
"We have always been clear and transparent regarding the source and method of extraction of the natural gas that would be used in our project; 85% of our supply will be effectively extracted using the hydraulic fracturing method. "
- Stéphanie Fortin
transparencies
Stéphanie Fortin, senior director of public affairs and community relations at GNL Quebec, says that the use of gas from hydraulic fracturing has always been on the cards. "We have always been clear and transparent regarding the source and method of extraction of the natural gas that would be used in our project; 85% of our supply will be effectively extracted using the hydraulic fracturing method. These data are validated by the Alberta Energy Regulator, which predicts that this proportion will continue over the next few decades. These data are also included in our environmental impact study and in the life cycle analysis carried out by CIRAIG (International Reference Center for the Life Cycle of Products, Processes and Services). "
Éric Pineault is more of an opinion than in doubt, it is better to act with caution. “Here, we oppose precaution and profit. When you don't know [how much greenhouse gas emissions are], and [gas producers] are right to say they don't know, because it's hard to calculate, I tend to put a downside. "
+
A CONTROVERSIAL PROCESS
While the Canadian Energy Board plans to increase the use of hydraulic fracturing to extract unconventional gases, the process remains controversial. Significant landscape impacts, leaks, potential contamination of groundwater, unsustainability of the process and soil instability are only a few aspects of hydraulic fracturing.
"Gas leaks are difficult to calculate," warns Éric Pineault, a specialist in economics and environmental sciences. It’s true that it pollutes less than coal, unless wells leak everywhere. The problem is that we don't know how [the ground] will evolve. With only 1% of leakage, we back up the coal, and I'm not talking about old polluting mines from the 70s. I'm talking about a new, less polluting, old one from the last 20 years. ""

Finanstilsynet burde nok ta en ekstra titt her..
