"FREE STAND. Like many other Drummondville residents, I received a letter informing me of the "good" intentions of the Alberta company Questerre, which holds the authorizations to explore the basement of the Lévis lands in Drummondville.

Many have put this letter for recycling, thinking it was advertising. However, these "claims drilling" will be devastating for the environment and for our region.

A few months ago, 500,000 people took to the streets to indicate to decision makers at all levels of government that they were concerned about the environment. In Drummondville, nearly 2,000 people made this gesture. It was the biggest protest here, according to L'Express.

I find it arrogant that, in the midst of a climate emergency, we come to relaunch the debate on an energy that we do not want.

André Lamontagne, Minister responsible for Center-du-Québec, was questioned several times on this issue during the election campaign. It demonstrated people's concern over the exploitation of shale gas.

His response has always been that it will not be without social acceptability, nor south of the St. Lawrence and in densely populated regions.

Drummondville, Lévis, Bécancour, aren't they densely populated?

What is even more disturbing in this case is that we learned in an article by André Noël that a Questerre administrator has been appointed to a strategic position in the Legault government. In addition, we learned last week that the same government appointed the president of BAPE, a lobbyist who "worked for 16 years as a" consultant "for the main association promoting the interests of petrochemical companies involved in the development of natural gas development and marketing projects in Canada ”.

The government may say that these people are impartial, no one is fooled: there is a strong smell of petroleum at the CAQ!

Everything points to the fact that we must be wary and mobilize so that such a project does not see the light of day. I think that the population should be better informed about all aspects of such exploration and future exploitation of our lands. We will have to be vigilant. I hope that our elected officials will take note of the opposition of the majority of the population to this project of another century.

Will Mr. Lamontagne and Mr. Schneeberger Respect Their Government's Commitment? Will they pressure their colleagues and ministers concerned? Will they go so far as to put pressure on Prime Minister Legault? It is their duty to protect the people of Central Quebec.

Honorable members, what are you going to do in this matter for the people of Center-du-Québec?
